Head of Manufacturing Operations for Food Processing Plant

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Manufacturing Operations for Food Processing Plant to join our team at Farm Manager SA. This is a unique opportunity to lead our manufacturing operations and drive our business forward.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Factories and Prepacking Facilities Growth Strategy Development:
    • Develop and implement strategies to improve factories and prepacking facilities productivity.
    • Establish a central admin function for all factories and prepacking facilities.
    • Develop and implement a five-year growth and expansion strategy.
    • Conduct technical evaluations of all factories and prepacking facilities and implement standardized processes.
  • Financial & Business Management:
    • Collaborate in setting up budgets and monitor resource allocation.
    • Prepare monthly and project finance reports.
    • Contribute to business profitability by managing resources and establishing business objectives.
  • People Management:
    • Instil discipline within the management and labour force.
    • Set performance agreements, manage subordinates, and coach and mentor the team.
    • Create a healthy labour relations environment through continuous employee engagement.
  • Health & Safety:
    • Accept and execute 16(2) and GMR2(1) roles and responsibilities.
    • Manage and implement health, safety, and management systems.
    • Drive hazard identification and risk assessments for all operations.
    • Support and achieve ISO45001 accreditation in South African production units.
  • Capital Projects:
    • Engage with internal operations managers for project requirements.
    • Review and approve capital projects.
    • Set up budgets and execute projects timely and within budget.
    • Oversee the design process by internal and external engineers.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Constantly evaluate packing practices and activities.
    • Develop and implement process flows for all activities.
    • Pursue profit enhancement projects to improve gross profit.
    • Measure water usage and report to management and compliance purposes.
    • Secure grower agreements and increase volume by 5% year on year.
  • Corporate Governance, Risk and Compliance:
    • Ensure statutory obligations under factories and prepacking facilities management.
    • Enforce ethical business practices and ensure compliance to corporate governance and responsible behaviour.
    • Create an inclusive culture.
  • Operational Activities:
    • Develop and implement data management systems and reporting for all factories and prepacking facilities.
    • Develop and implement maintenance strategies and performance of all equipment.
    • Standardise all factories and prepacking facilities across the continent.
    • Manage warehouse operations and stock control.
  • Accreditation Management:
    • Ensure compliance for all relevant accreditations, including fire, water, and food safety regulations.
    • Manage audit processes, from booking audits to internal audits and overseeing the audit itself.
    • Coordinate audit-related activities throughout the year.
