Phlebotomy Technician Job Description
The South African National Blood Service is seeking a skilled Phlebotomy Technician to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing phlebotomy procedures, including venipuncture and capillary puncture, to collect blood samples from donors.

About the Role
The Phlebotomy Technician will assist in efficient clinic preparation and closure to achieve blood collection targets. They will also undertake donor registrations professionally, accurately, and promptly, as well as perform basic physical checks to assess donor suitability for donations. Additionally, the candidate will ensure phlebotomy procedures are carried out according to Standard Operating Procedures. The role also involves performing general administrative duties and working overtime, weekends, and variable hours within prescribed limits and conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assist in clinic preparation and closure to achieve blood collection targets.
  2. Undertake donor registrations professionally, accurately, and promptly.
  3. Perform basic physical checks to assess donor suitability for donations.
  4. Ensure phlebotomy procedures are carried out according to Standard Operating Procedures.
  5. Perform general administrative duties.

Required Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess analytical thinking and attention to detail, customer service orientation, relationship building skills, communication skills, teamwork ability, and a professional image and visibility. In addition, the candidate must hold a current registration with HPCSA, a current CPR Certificate, a valid code 8 or 10 drivers license, and be prepared to work overtime, weekends, and variable hours within prescribed limits and conditions.
