Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for processing accounting records onto a computerized accounting system, ensuring accurate and complete financial records. This includes completing annual financial statements, working paper files, and calculating taxation owing by businesses and individuals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and initiating the processing of client information, cheques, receipts, sales invoices, and purchase invoices
  • Performing bank reconciliations and processing and reconciling Petty Cash and cash control accounts
  • Keeping a fixed asset register and general journals, including depreciation, provisions, interest salaries, stock, and other financial transactions
  • Processing journal entries, foreign exchange transactions, and reconciling debtors and creditors statements
  • Correct accounting treatment on disposal of assets and investments, and calculating taxation on capital gains/losses
  • Analyzing trial balances for mistakes and deviations, and discussing results with clients
  • Conducting analytical reviews of annual financial statements, including GP%, inventory days, creditors days, and debtors days
  • Producing draft financial statements and working paper files for various entities, including sole proprietors, close corporations, trusts, partnerships, small business corporations, farmers, and Body Corporates
  • Preparing notes to financial statements and formulating accounting policies
  • Identifying provisions and contingent liabilities, and calculating tax liability for various entities
  • Completing statutory returns, including UIF, SDL, PAYE, and VAT, and liaising with clients regarding payment
  • Preparing payroll and issuing IRP5's and IT3's, and reconciling EMP501 at year-end
  • Reconciling input/output VAT to annual financial statements and monthly trial balances
  • Compiling and discussing monthly management accounts with clients
  • Recording and identifying shortcomings in internal controls, and accounting for loans on related parties
  • Setting up accounting systems for clients
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a BCom degree or equivalent work experience, and have completed articles (advantageous). Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word, is essential. Familiarity with Caseware, Vanilla Payroll, Pastel, Xero, and other accounting software is advantageous. Strong communication skills, including the ability to converse in English, Afrikaans, and Xhosa, are required.
