Job Title: Senior Accountant

Profile Personnel is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant to join our team. As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for providing financial leadership and guidance to our clients, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and initiate the processing of client information, including cheques, receipts, sales invoices, and purchase invoices.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and process and reconcile Petty Cash and cash control accounts.
  • Keep a fixed asset register and perform general journals, including depreciation, provisions, interest salaries, stock, and other related transactions.
  • Process journal entries, including new instalment sale agreements, interest on borrowings, provisions, accruals of income and expenses, bad debts, and foreign exchange transactions.
  • Reconcile debtors and creditors statements and correct accounting treatment on disposal of assets and investments.
  • Analyse the resulting trial balance for mistakes or deviations and discuss the results with clients.
  • Perform analytical reviews of Annual Financial Statements, including GP%, Inventory days, Creditors days, and Debtors days.
  • Ability to record books from insufficient records and produce a draft set of financials and a working paper file for various entities.
  • Prepare notes to financial statements, formulate accounting policies, and identify provisions and contingent liabilities.
  • Calculate tax liability for various entities, including sole proprietors, individuals, close corporations, trusts, small business corporations, farmers, Body Corporates, and partnerships.
  • Calculate taxation on lumpsum payments by retirement, non-resident tax, withholding tax on companies, and PAYE/UIF/SDL levies and VAT.
  • Complete statutory returns, including UIF/SDL/PAYE/VAT, and liaise with clients regarding payment of these returns.
  • Prepare payroll, issue IRP5's and IT3's, and reconcile to EMP501 at year-end.
  • Reconcile input/output VAT to annual financial statements and monthly trial balances and compile and discuss monthly management accounts with clients.
  • Record and identify shortcomings in internal controls and account for loans on related parties.
  • Set up accounting systems for clients.

Requirements:

  • BCom degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Completed articles (advantageous).
  • Microsoft Office (Excel/Word).
  • Caseware (advantageous).
  • Vanilla Payroll (advantageous).
  • Pastel (advantageous).
  • Xero (advantageous).
  • Communication skills: ability to converse in English/Afrikaans/Xhosa (advantageous).
