About the Role

We are looking for an experienced professional to lead our Environmental and Social Management efforts in South Africa. As a Sustainable Development Lead, you will play a key role in ensuring that our projects meet the highest standards of environmental and social responsibility.

Your main objectives will be to:

  1. Position Voltalia among the leading players in the South African market with a pragmatic and practical approach to obtain concrete results;
  2. Strengthen links with players in the environmental and social sphere (consultancy firms, associations, administrations, federations, etc.) and supervise very important project workstreams;
  3. Lead the local team in resource allocation, ensuring high quality of output and deliverables;
  4. Provide advice to the team to ensure that the company complies with current local environmental and social regulations and legislation;
  5. Participate in South African work groups related to the renewable energy industry;
  6. Provide guidance and mentorship to all in-country E&S resources;
  7. Supervise and maintain the legal and contractual environment, social and ED documentation, according to the legal requirements;
  8. Implement Voltalia's Environment and Social Risk Assessment Procedure;
  9. Draft, modify, and implement the HSES Management System (ESMS) for all projects in South Africa;
  10. Train workers from Voltalia or subcontractors in the Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS);
  11. Guide local offices in Voltalia's standards, including lenders' standards as applicable;
  12. Perform inspections and audits, issuing relevant reports; follow up and manage environmental, social, and ED performance of all projects in country;
  13. Review and approve relevant documentation produced by subcontractors;
  14. Report Environment KPIs on a monthly basis, prepare necessary monthly reports;
  15. Search for continuous improvement through audits and monitoring of internal processes, ensuring implementation and effectiveness of action plans;
  16. Contribute to the development of skills of all teams on environmental, social, and ED issues through sharing experience and specific internal training;
  17. Implement appropriate monitoring mechanisms to oversee all manpower used at site, guaranteeing compliance with social commitments and obligations of the project, as well as Voltalia's social management plans;
  18. Contribute and manage timely preparation of necessary reports for project's environmental, social, and ED reporting to internal Management, local authorities, lenders, and Clients, when applicable;
  19. Actively contribute and manage the E&S team (both in-house and contracted positions) through different project phases including prospecting, development, construction, and operational phases.
