Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Renewable Energy Project Coordinator to join our team in Cape Town, South Africa. As a key member of our global team, you will be responsible for the development and structuring of renewable energy projects from early opportunity through the development cycle to financial close.

Your responsibilities will include identifying potential project sites, conducting initial risk assessments, negotiating land leases, and obtaining permits and licenses from government departments. You will also manage project costs, engage with stakeholders, and implement risk mitigation strategies.

You will work closely with senior developers to contribute to due diligence processes, support renewable energy procurement programs, and assist in achieving financial close. Additionally, you will provide support and leadership in the field of Environmental Assessment, Sustainable Development, Strategic Environmental Planning, and other environmental management fields.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Negotiate Project Acquisition and manage the acquisition/transaction process
  • Support the Process to secure equity and debt finance for projects until financial close
  • Negotiate with prospective development partners and assume responsibility for external relationships
  • Plan and coordinate internal and external project development activities including securing land rights, obtaining required local permits and approvals, securing interconnection rights from utilities
  • Undertake market reviews, analysing regulatory issues and policy supports for utility-scale renewable energy projects and develop development strategies for countries or regions
  • Participate in bidding processes to submit bid packages in response to Request for Proposals (RFPs) from utilities and private off-takers

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Environmental, Legal, Commercial or Technical University level degree
  • 3-8 years professional experience from Environmental, Project Development, Engineering companies or consulting firms, preferably within Renewable Energy
  • Experience with permitting of projects
  • Understanding of Power markets and in particular renewable energy
  • Working knowledge and understanding of power purchase agreements, interconnection agreements, and EPC contract terms and conditions is preferable, but not required
  • Basic Knowledge of business fundamentals and financial analysis
  • Knowledge of Renewable Energy Development Regulatory Framework in South Africa
  • Expert level of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including presentation software and Excel
  • Project Acquisition and Project Structuring
  • General Project Finance, Tender Management and Legal Competency
  • Languages: fluent both written and spoken in English (additional language e.g. Afrikaans is advantageous)
