Job Title: Innovation Officer 3-year FTC

Nelson Mandela University (NMU) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join its Innovation Office as an Innovation Officer on a 3-year fixed-term contract.

Job Summary

The Innovation Officer will play a key role in supporting NMU's innovation and technology transfer activities, including the identification, protection, and management of the university's intellectual property (IP). The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating NMU's IP portfolio, supporting the commercialization of research outputs, and providing administrative support to the Technology Transfer Office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the management of NMU's IP portfolio, including the filing of patent applications and maintenance of the IP database.
  • Support the commercialization of NMU's research outputs, including the identification of research work with commercial potential and the management of projects.
  • Provide administrative support to the Technology Transfer Office, including the preparation of research contracts and document management.
Requirements
  • M+4 qualification in a technology-based scientific field or engineering.
  • A minimum of three years' relevant experience in project management and commercialization.
  • Experience in a higher education, government, or funding agency environment.
  • Valid driver's license.
