Job Title : Firefighting Operations Specialist

About the Role:

The George Local Municipality is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Firefighting Operations Specialist to join their team. As a key member of the firefighting unit, you will be responsible for responding to emergencies and performing fire suppression, rescue, and demand control duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to emergency calls and perform firefighting operations in accordance with legislative requirements and established protocols.
  • Operate vehicle and equipment during emergency situations while ensuring immediate and safe use.
  • Maintain and improve skills and knowledge through demonstrations and subordinate personnel training.
  • Ensure proper record-keeping and communication flow within the department.
  • Contribute to efficiency and effectiveness by sharing knowledge and expertise.
  • Maintain response readiness at all times.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or higher qualification.
  • Valid Code C1 Driver's License.
  • Relevant Firefighter Certificate.
  • Pump Operator/Aerial Appliance qualification.
  • Higher Certificate in Fire Technology (Fire Services).
  • Fire Prevention course completion.
  • IFSAC Accredited Firefighter I and II courses.
  • IFSAC Accredited Fire Service Instructor 1 qualification.
  • High Angle Rescue 1 qualification.
  • First Aid Level 3 certification.
  • Fire Investigation course completion.
  • Hazmat Awareness and Hazmat Operational/Fire & Rescue - IFSAC Accredited qualifications.
  • No criminal record.
  • At least 4 years of operational experience, with 2 years at Firefighter 2 level.

Physical Requirements:

  • Reasonable level of fitness with no extreme cardiac or respiratory anomalies.
  • Able to perform strenuous duties for prolonged periods in extreme weather conditions and firefighting situations.
  • Physical strength, endurance, and agility to instruct fire fighters in equipment usage and firefighting techniques.
  • Pass all required medical tests prior to employment.

Salary Estimate:

R600,000 - R800,000 per annum, based on location and experience.
