Job Title: Laboratory Supervisor

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Supervisor to join our team at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Pretoria, South Africa.

Job Summary:

The Laboratory Supervisor will be responsible for providing technical support to laboratory services with respect to Migration Health Assessments (HAP) and other programs implemented by the IOM Migration Health Division in Pretoria, South Africa.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Organize and oversee daily laboratory activities to ensure efficient and optimal service delivery.
  2. Verify that laboratory facilities and bio-safety measures meet international standards and country requirements.
  3. Maintain and promote high-quality laboratory services by keeping Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) up to date and conducting annual reviews.
  4. Monitor staffing needs and participate in recruiting, training, guiding, and supervising laboratory staff.
  5. Participate in annual HAP activities planning and budget preparation related to laboratory services.
  6. Ensure that equipment and consumables are sufficient for anticipated workload and plan procurement, delivery, installation, and operation.
  7. Monitor maintenance of established system of organized record keeping and information management.
  8. Liaise with national laboratories, IOM departments, and national relevant entities on laboratory-related topics.
Requirements:
  • University degree in Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Sciences, Microbiology, or a related discipline with six years of relevant experience.
  • Master's degree in Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Sciences, Microbiology, or a related discipline with four years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant laboratory experience in a busy institution, preferably in a mycobacteriology laboratory.
  • Computer literacy with understanding of accurate data collection and analysis for monitoring and continuous improvement of laboratory services and performance.
  • Good awareness of the laboratory role in health systems and optimal use of resources for quality and efficient services delivery.
