Role Overview:

The Principal is pivotal in driving student success by leading a team of dedicated staff to prepare SPARK scholars for higher education and future endeavors. The Principal establishes a clear vision for academic excellence and implements strategic initiatives to engage staff, families, students, and the broader community in achieving that vision. Collaboration with the Assistant Principal(s) and Operations and Blended Learning Manager is essential to maintain high standards for school culture, student performance, and professional growth.

The Principal plays a crucial role in decision-making regarding the instructional program and school operations, ensuring that every SPARK scholar achieves academic success and embodies the core values of SPARK Schools. The Principal is integral to fostering the unique culture of SPARK Schools and our commitment to providing rigorous and engaging learning experiences for our scholars.

Reporting Structure: High School Academic Manager

Key Responsibilities:

Foster a school culture that prioritizes high achievement, strong character, and a passion for learning. Implement a challenging and engaging instructional program that promotes mastery of content, creative problem-solving, and character development, aligned with SPARK Schools' mission and vision. Utilize both quantitative (assessment) and qualitative (anecdotal) data to inform decision-making and instructional practices. Set ambitious academic and behavioral goals, holding staff and students accountable for achieving these objectives. Oversee behavior management policies and address student behavior, implementing individualized plans for those who struggle to meet SPARK Schools' expectations. Encourage a culture of self-reflection and continuous improvement among staff. Facilitate professional development for SPARK staff through regular observations, coaching cycles, and collaboration with SPARK Support staff to deliver relevant training sessions. Conduct regular evaluations of SPARK staff to support their professional growth and leadership development. Create a high-achieving work environment where staff feel valued and supported. Build and maintain relationships with all stakeholders, including parents, families, the community, and the Department of Basic Education, leveraging these connections to enhance student achievement. Lead school-wide community events, engaging the school leadership team, teachers, and active parents for support. Oversee the accreditation process with Umalusi for the National Senior Certificate examinations. Manage the administration of National Senior Certificate examinations and relevant district and provincial standardized assessments. Supervise the Instructional Assistant Principal(s), including an Operational Assistant Principal, and facilitate their leadership development within SPARK's network-wide program. Participate in the recruitment of new school personnel. Oversee the onboarding process for all new staff members. Communicate policies and procedures to parents, students, staff, and the community. Engage actively in staff development opportunities as a member of the SPARK Schools team. Exhibit professionalism at all SPARK Schools events and in interactions with stakeholders. Manage the school's financial budget.

Qualifications and Criteria:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and criteria:

Experience

A minimum of 3-4 years of exemplary classroom instruction, including experience teaching Grade 12.At least two years in a leadership role within a high school setting.Familiarity with labor laws.Experience with Umalusi accreditation and administration of National Senior Certificate examinations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Fluency in English.Grade 12/Matric Certificate.Completed or PGCE degree (SP & FET).Honors or Master's degree is advantageous.SACE registration.Clear criminal record.
