Job Description

We are seeking an Industrial Engineer Specialist to join our team at Defy Appliances, the largest manufacturer and distributor of major appliances in Southern Africa. The role will be based in Durban, Jacobs, and will focus on achieving world-class manufacturing through the application of industrial engineering skills and techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Reduce production man-hours and factory transformation costs by optimizing labor resource allocation and equipment utilization.
  2. Improve and optimize production processes, ergonomics, and line layouts to enhance efficiency.
  3. Perform line balance studies to identify areas for improvement.
  4. Lead continuous improvements on labor efficiency in processes and implement changes effectively.
  5. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement automation projects that drive business outcomes.
  6. Conduct layout improvements to identify opportunities for process enhancements.
  7. Develop and implement tracking and reporting processes to monitor KPIs, particularly productivity and man-hours.
  8. Design and improve jig and fixture designs to increase process efficiency.
  9. Enhance material handling and process flow to reduce waste and improve quality.
  10. Participate in Agile product teams to drive innovation and excellence.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in industrial engineering, preferably in durable goods or automotive industries.
  • Proven track record of reducing waste and improving productivity.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with ability to think critically and make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficient in MS Office, AutoCAD, and SAP, with experience working with simulation programs and data analytics tools.
