Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Legal Advisor to join our legal team at Sanlam Limited. The successful candidate will provide professional legal advice and risk management services to internal clients, mitigating legal risks for Sanlam Alternative Investments (SAI).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in relevant committees and report on legal or reputational risks.
  • Structure, negotiate, document, and manage legal aspects of transactions within a risk framework acceptable to SAI and committee conditions.
  • Provide commercially viable solutions to technical issues.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate corporate, banking, security, and finance documentation across debt, properties, empowerment, and equities sectors.
  • Review and negotiate cross-border and international transactions.
  • Advising on distressed debt and restructurings.
  • Advising on insolvency and litigation issues.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate non-core business documentation.
  • Prepare and update precedent and know-how systems.
  • Provide training to the business on topical areas of law.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A registered attorney with 5 years of related experience.
  • Compliance and legal project management skills.
  • Ability to coordinate legal action that may require external legal assistance.
  • Negotiation and communication skills, along with related risk, financial, and legal expertise in managing client relationships.
