As a Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a 26-person technical staff. This includes interacting with the Sales team and Operations manager to discuss new projects, project scheduling, and completion dates. You will also be responsible for daily work planning, scheduling, and instruction to workshop teams and team leaders.
You will interact with the Operations manager and Customers to discuss project progress and potential problems. Additionally, you will be responsible for planning and ordering special items from external suppliers for timely delivery. You will also manage and adhere to work schedules, ensuring quality management throughout the production process.
Other key responsibilities include tooling management and control, supervision and training of workshop staff, anticipating and resolving issues that may hinder effective operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and protocols, and performing administrative tasks as required.
Qualifications and ExperienceWe are seeking a candidate with a strong background in mechanical engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years of workshop management experience. Alternatively, a trade-tested toolmaker, boilermaker, fitter & turner, or millwright with a minimum of 5 years of work experience and at least 3 years of workshop management experience would be considered.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be fully bilingual in Afrikaans and English, and have a natural aptitude for technical quality and finish of work. They will also possess an entrepreneurial mindset, be hands-on and proactive, and have a results-driven approach.
We are looking for a leader who can set an example rather than manage by instruction, and who is able to read technical drawings and specifications, interpret, plan, and manufacture accordingly.
