About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Plant Engineer to join our team at ALPLA PACKAGING SA (PTY) LTD. As a key member of our infrastructure team, you will be responsible for the smooth operation of our Lanseria plant's electrical, air, water, and chiller systems.


Key Responsibilities
  1. Define, plan, order, and direct utilities installations to ensure efficient and safe operations.
  2. Perform cost analysis for facility or utilities equipment to optimize resource allocation.
  3. Monitor infrastructure equipment parameters to ensure operation within accepted specifications.
  4. Brief and manage contractors for infrastructure equipment installation, repair, or maintenance.
  5. Coordinate infrastructure projects with clear objectives and timetables to ensure timely completion within budget.
  6. Assist in designing and coordinating plant layout with CAD to optimize space utilization.
  7. Review plant layout design for compliance with local laws, engineering principles, company standards, and customer contract requirements.
  8. Update our internal ERP system with energy and water consumption data, costs, and infrastructure information.
  9. Participate in designing, updating drawing layouts, managing, and monitoring small to midsize projects regarding the facility and utilities.
  10. Coordinate and develop the facility and infrastructure team/Maintenance team.
  11. Communicate any impact on planning with related departments.
  12. Assist maintenance on infrastructure or engineering matters.
  13. Ensure that any project/engineering activities do not impact the quality of our products.
  14. Assist local Maintenance, Quality, and Production departments on customer quality concerns.

Requirements
  • Min. qualification - Technical Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
  • University degree in electrical/mechanical engineering or equivalent is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 8 years experience in a similar role in the manufacturing industry.
  • Must have handled projects from start to finish.
  • Must have physically been part with the design and installation of infrastructure equipment.
  • Project management experience.
  • Project management skills including MS Project, Excel, Word.
  • AutoCAD 2D layout skills.
  • Profound communication skills.
  • Excellent teamwork and conflict management skills.
  • Very good command of written and spoken English.
  • Familiar with 5S and lean management tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office.
  • Interaction with the production, quality, and logistics team as required.
  • High level of energy.
  • Must be able to work weekends and overtime (if required).
  • Able to work in various weather and temperature conditions.
  • Must always act in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
