About the Role

The Commercial Legal Expert will be responsible for managing all legal matters related to the African Region, excluding South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, and Eswatini. This includes providing expert, efficient, and cost-effective legal services in various fields of law, except Labour Law. Key responsibilities include rendering legal advice, negotiating disputes, drafting agreements, participating in specialist committees, and engaging with authorities, suppliers, contractors, service providers, and other parties as required.

Main Responsibilities
  • To support the African Region in all legal matters, finding effective solutions for the business.
  • To determine the most suitable legal entity structures in the various African Region markets where the company is active or intends to enter.
  • To comment, draft, and finalise various commercial agreements, including Importer, Distributor, Dealer, and Assembly Agreements, ensuring risks, liability, and deliverables are carefully handled.
  • To provide legal and business advice, ensuring compliance with the company and Group Organisational Directives.
  • To provide legal and business advice to ensure that the company complies with relevant legislation affecting day-to-day operations.
  • To remain abreast of legal developments in general and within the Motor Industry, creating awareness, ensuring internal compliance, and providing training on significant legislation.
  • To participate in specialist committees to promote synergies within the organisation and with consultants proactively.
  • To represent the company at automotive and other relevant legal forums on matters of common interest, specifically new legislation without competition law implications arising.
  • To oversee and manage litigation/alternative dispute resolution proceedings initiated by or instituted against the company, supporting external legal practitioners to avoid negative publicity and reputational damage, promoting cost-effective dispute resolution without destroying supplier/provider relations.
  • To protect intellectual property of the Group.
  • To support the Integrity, Risk, and Compliance Department as necessary.
  • To identify training requirements relevant to the field of law and Group directives, presenting relevant training within the company.

We offer a competitive salary range of R1 200 000 - R1 500 000 per annum, commensurate with experience, plus benefits.
