Job Title: Head of Compliance

This is a pivotal role for a Head of Compliance to oversee compliance across the entire organisation, ensuring adherence to laws and regulations, and providing strategic direction and independent assurance.

The Role:

This role involves driving a compliance culture, steering compliance frameworks and risk management, developing policies and training initiatives, overseeing monitoring and auditing implementation, reporting to and managing senior stakeholder expectations, and ensuring operational governance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement compliance strategies to mitigate risks and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Provide strategic direction and independent assurance on compliance matters
  • Drive a compliance culture across the organisation
  • Steer compliance frameworks and risk management initiatives
  • Develop policies and training initiatives to ensure compliance awareness
  • Oversee monitoring and auditing implementation to ensure compliance
  • Report to and manage senior stakeholder expectations on compliance matters
  • Ensure operational governance to ensure compliance

Requirements:

At least 10 years of compliance experience, with a minimum of 5 years in compliance management within the insurance industry or a regulated financial services industry. A law degree (LLB or B/Proc) or relevant BCom degree from a South African university or an equivalent qualification from a foreign tertiary institution is required. Admission as an attorney is advantageous. A compliance qualification (postgraduate Diploma in Compliance Management) is advantageous. Risk management certification is advantageous. Meeting the competence and experience requirements to be registered as a Compliance Officer with the FSCA is advantageous. Professional designations such as C Prac (SA) or C Prof (SA) are advantageous.
