Job Title: Postdoctoral Research Fellowship: Statistics
Job Description:
At the University of Fort Hare, we are seeking a highly skilled postdoctoral research fellow to join our team in the field of statistics and data science. The successful candidate will be working closely with our experienced researchers to tackle significant health issues in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Key Responsibilities:
We are looking for a candidate who can contribute to our research projects, focusing on the application of data science, machine learning, deep learning, or artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to improve personalized treatment for patients with both communicable and non-communicable diseases in Africa.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in biostatistics, applied statistics, or a related field, with a doctoral degree obtained within the last 5 years. They should also possess strong quantitative and qualitative data collection and analytical skills.
Selection Criteria:
- Doctoral degree in Biostatistics, Applied Statistics, or related field obtained within the last 5 years.
- Must have strong quantitative and qualitative data collection and analytical skills.
- South Africans, permanent residents, or internationals for full-time research.
- Preference will be given to South African black female citizens and permanent residents.
- Young and emerging scholars with a minimum of 5 publications.
Value and Tenure:
The fellowship is valued at R300 000 per year (non-taxable) and is valid for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year based on excellent performance and availability of funds.
Conditions of Award:
- Applicant must be ready to publish a minimum of 2 units in DHET-accredited journals based on the current project and present at conferences.
- The successful applicant will be required to be based at Alice Campus for the duration of the fellowship or as agreed by the host.
- Successful applicants may not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship.
