The Department of History at Rhodes University invites applications for a tenure-track position as Academic Leader in African History.
About the PositionThis is an exciting opportunity to join our team of scholars and contribute to the development of knowledge in African History. The successful candidate will be expected to teach, conduct research, and engage with the community.
Job Responsibilities- Teaching: The candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in African History, including undergraduate and graduate-level classes. They will also be expected to develop new courses and programs that align with the department's goals.
- Research: The candidate will be expected to conduct original research in African History, publishing their findings in reputable academic journals and books. They will also be expected to collaborate with colleagues on research projects.
- Community Engagement: The candidate will be expected to engage with the local community through public lectures, workshops, and other events.
To be considered for this position, candidates must have a PhD in African History or a related field. They must also have experience in teaching and research, as well as a strong publication record. A background in archival studies or archival science is an added advantage.
Preferred QualificationsThe following qualifications are preferred: expertise in Eastern Cape history, research and teaching expertise in gender, sexuality, and women histories.
Estimated Salary RangeR750,000 - R1,000,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
