Role Overview

The Senior Insurance Deal Originator will be responsible for generating deal flow and building a robust pipeline of prospective insurance/financial transactions for underwriting at ECIC. This role requires strong technical skills to assess complex financial transactions and evaluate their bankability and commercial viability.

Key Responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for conduct market research for business opportunities, developing a strong pipeline of good quality projects/transactions, and comprehensively mapping industry or sector opportunities to generate a list of prospects. They will also develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, global, regional, and local private businesses, banking, and multilateral partners, and government officials to further develop specific underwriting opportunities.

Qualifications & Experience

The incumbent should have a degree with specialisation in commercial or technical discipline, including economics, accountancy, finance, banking, science, law, or engineering. A minimum of 5 years' transactional experience in origination sales planning, structuring deals, project financing, corporate finance, political risk underwriting, risk management, or deal origination is required. Sound knowledge of international business, contractual, and corporate financial practices and accounting is also necessary.

Skills & Abilities

The incumbent should have demonstrated strong business development and client relationship skills, ability to identify opportunities and assess their feasibility, sound business judgement, strong financial, credit, risk management, and analytical skills. Excellent communication skills at all levels in both oral and written English, with additional language skills being a plus. Proficiency in French or Portuguese is not a requirement but would be advantageous. Excellent cross-cultural and interpersonal skills, with ability to forge, develop, and maintain relationships with other areas of the business and all relevant stakeholders. Ability to coordinate and manage multiple functions, understand the basics of financial and transaction analysis, and communicate underwriting concepts to non-specialists. Strict attention to detail and deadline-oriented. Willingness to travel. Motivated and enthusiastic about the opportunities and challenges of working on the continent and other emerging markets.
