About This Role:

This is a permanent full-time position within the HR department of SOUTH32 Limited. As a Principal Employee Relations, you will play a key role in developing and executing employee relations strategies that align with current trends and legislation.

The ideal candidate will have a sound understanding of employment law, negotiation, and communication skills. They will also possess expertise in risk management and governance, as well as the ability to interpret and explain complex regulations to diverse stakeholders.

About You:

We are looking for a highly skilled professional with 5 years' experience in a legal or employee relations role. A tertiary qualification in Law or Labour Relations is essential, along with proficiency in developing employee relations policies and practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and execute employee relations strategies aligned with current trends and legislation.
  2. Maintain appropriate governance structures to ensure compliance with workplace relations legislation and global consistency.
  3. Support HR Operations Managers in reviewing and executing IR/ER documents.
  4. Represent SOUTH32 Limited in internal and external engagements, high-risk disputes, and arbitrations as required.
  5. Act as an independent Chairperson to internal South African cases deemed dismissible or sensitive.
  6. Provide ER legal advice to the South Africa Operations as and when required.
  7. Develop training content for HR deployment to line leaders.
  8. Contribute to the development of ER procedures, guidelines, and reporting requirements.
  9. Support HR Managers in reviewing and auditing ER risks and implementing corrective mitigation plans.
  10. Facilitate the interpretation and implementation of employment arrangements, policies, procedures, and applicable employment legislation.
  11. Support HR Managers during wage agreements as required.
  12. Provide regular labour law updates and establish an ER network for all Africa ER personnel.
