Job Title: Executive Director, Clinical Research SA

MNA Recruitment (Pty) Ltd is seeking an experienced Executive Director, Clinical Research SA to lead Clinical Operations for South Africa and the Sub-Saharan Cluster.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the South African and Sub-Saharan Cluster Clinical Trial Operations leadership team, driving strategic development to deliver clinical trials as per the company's growing global clinical research pipeline requirement.
  • Represent the company at all levels, building and leading the team to effectively manage resources, ensuring appropriately skilled and high-performing teams to deliver the study portfolio across therapy areas.
  • Develop and execute the Clinical Trial Operations strategy for South Africa and the cluster, collaborating with regional and global colleagues.
  • Recruit, hire, proactively manage, and develop talent, creating an empowering, compliant, collaborative, and innovation-focused work environment.
  • Proactively identify new opportunities and gaps to support emerging needs, addressing them by reallocating and training existing staff or external recruitment.
  • Build a culture of quality and compliance through training, oversight, and collaboration, ensuring appropriate scientific and operational training for staff members.
  • Oversee Clinical Trial Operations and Research division goals, initiatives, and expectations, developing and delivering company standards, and managing country-level operational study budgets.
  • Collaborate with Functional Service Providers, Senior, Regional, and local Leadership to ensure adequate and appropriate resourcing for the company's internal clinical trial portfolio.
  • Contribute to program life-cycle management through effective study allocation and execution, prioritizing programs, working with Key Opinion Leaders, and driving change by shaping the external environment.
  • Ensure compliance, quality, and timeline objectives are met for all trials executed in the cluster, setting clear performance standards and holding self and the organization accountable for achieving results.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Science or equivalent healthcare experience is required; an advanced degree (e.g., MD, PhD, Pharm D, MS, MBA) is preferred.
  • Significant experience in Clinical Trials, with proven leadership experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
  • Strategic thinking, management expertise covering budget, travel, resources, headcount, processes, productivity, quality, and project delivery.
  • A complete understanding of ICH GCP and Global/Regional/Local regulatory requirements.
  • Strong Communication skills, proficiency in written and spoken English, and high emotional intelligence.
  • Strong leadership skills to attract, motivate, inspire, develop, and retain talented staff, driving alignment with the company's goals, purpose, and mission.
