Claims Team Manager: Gauteng, Johannesburg

We are seeking a highly skilled Claims Team Manager to lead our claims handling team in Gauteng, Johannesburg. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing and leading a team of claims handlers/administrators to facilitate the processing of both internal and external client instructions on behalf of the relevant department.
Key Responsibilities- Minimise expenses by utilising cost-effective processes and adhering to operational budgets.
- Ensure timely completion of tasks through efficient financial transaction processing within Service Level Agreement (SLA) requirements.
- Effectively manage workload by adhering to stipulated timeframes and delivering high-quality work.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with external clients through providing quality service and meeting turnaround times.
- Establish and maintain trusting working relationships with internal stakeholders through regular engagement sessions, appropriate reporting, and communication.
- Evaluate client satisfaction by understanding and meeting their required needs.
- Manage staff performance by implementing resource plans that include work allocation and clear accountability.
- Enhance work quality by performing quality checks and taking corrective action where necessary.
- Promote team performance through multiskilling, job enhancement, process improvement, and other initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to process standards and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Drive operational improvements by identifying and implementing suitable solutions.
- Manage staff performance by implementing performance agreements, ensuring a clear vision, agreeing on goals and objectives, providing regular feedback on performance, recognising and rewarding achievement, and taking appropriate corrective action as needed.
- Mentor and coach staff on identified performance gaps by discussing these gaps and agreeing on suitable actions.
- Motivate staff to perform and contribute to business success by fostering an environment of teamwork through engaging with staff and encouraging participation in decision-making processes.
- Stay up-to-date in your field of expertise and deliver on stakeholder expectations by building capability through identifying current and future training and development needs.
- Contribute to team effectiveness by following the recruitment process when hiring talent.
- Maintain a capable, high-performing team and create an environment for optimal performance by identifying talent pools through conducting career conversations, utilising the talent grid principles, and developing talent retention programmes.
- Ensure self and staff understand and embrace the Nedbank Vision and Values by leading by example and re-enforcing values during meetings.
- Manage the onboarding process of new employees by ensuring execution of preparations according to the on-boarding checklist.
- Ensure transformational targets are met for own team through consideration of targets during the staff recruitment, retention, and training process and utilising suppliers listed on the preferred supplier list.
- Contribute to a culture conducive to achieving transformation goals by participating in Nedbank Culture building initiatives.
We are looking for an experienced Claims Team Manager with a deep understanding of claims processes and policy terms. Essential qualifications include Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate, and a minimum of 3-5 years' experience in Motor and Non-Motor Claims handling, with supervisory or leadership experience including managing workflows, handling escalations, and guiding claims handlers.
A higher certificate in Short-term Insurance is desirable but not essential.
Compensation and BenefitsThe successful candidate can expect a competitive salary range of R400,000 - R600,000 per annum, commensurate with experience. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, you will have opportunities for professional growth and development within our organisation.
