Job Summary:

As a Production Supervisor at SA Van Conversions, you will be responsible for overseeing all production-related activities to ensure that production targets are met, to the highest standard, within the agreed delivery timelines. This includes the use of existing systems and the implementation of new processes to facilitate accurate scheduling and delivery timelines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and oversee all production-related activities, including the use of existing systems and the implementation of new processes.
  • Open and close the production facility on a daily basis, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation.
  • Manage the production workforce, including fitters, pre-production staff, component manufacture staff, and appointed sub-contractors.
  • Develop and implement staff training and development programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of production staff.
  • Introduce visual assisted management in the production workplace to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Empower and motivate the production team to achieve excellence in their work.
  • Assist the HR department in the management of production staff absenteeism, including the implementation of contingency measures to minimize the impact on production.
  • Assist the Paymaster with the validation of staff attendance, including overtime, where required.
  • Create and implement production schedules in accordance with sales commitments and production targets.
  • Assist the Compliance Officer with updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for existing and newly introduced production activities.
  • Implement time and activity-based worksheets for regular occurring production activities, analyze and measure staff performance against the same, and make adjustments as required.
  • Manage the production process within a budget, including the measurement of performance against budget parameters.
  • Implement overtime where required and monitor the costs associated with the same.
  • Create and implement KPIs for production divisions, teams, and activities.
  • Report deliverables on a weekly basis to management.
  • Identify and implement sound manufacturing practices and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Become fully acquainted with statutory regulations and compulsory standards relative to vehicle modifications and the impact of such on road safety as determined in the National Road Traffic Act and supporting documents.
  • Become fully acquainted with OEM Body-Builders Guidelines and requirements.
  • Comply at all times with all quality control and approved processes.
  • Adjust or implement new control documents relevant to the production activities in accordance with the company's Quality Management System and policy.
  • Ensure all production-related activities are in accordance with SHEQ policies and procedures.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the SHEQ Officer and Quality Controller to review and discuss any identified risks within the production workspace.
  • Manage all aspects of maintenance of tools, machinery, equipment, and facilities within the production environment.
  • Daily engagement with the Planning Manager to stay well-informed of any delays or shortages in components and consumables, informing any changes or updates to production timelines.
  • Develop trusted advisory relationships with customers.
  • Assist the sales team with technical demonstrations at handovers and prototype inspections.
  • Oversee troubleshooting and technical diagnosis of vehicles under warranty, as well as creating a scope of work for general repairs.
  • Assist in the plan and preparation for the deployment of After-Sales technicians/teams.
  • Control and safekeeping of all customer vehicles on the premises.
  • Identify and address problems and opportunities within the production process.
  • Manage all aspects of housekeeping within the production and assembly areas, including the staff facilities.
