Job Summary

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive administrative and secretarial support to the Department of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department.

Key Responsibilities

Internal Support:

  1. Provide high-level secretarial support to the department, including preparation and organization of meetings and events.
  2. Maintain an online filing system for departmental documentation and ensure accurate and timely entry of marks and generation of marks reports.
  3. Manage departmental finances, including budgeting, requisitions, and financial transactions.
  4. Coordinate conference travel arrangements, printing of study materials, and academic marks queries.

External Support:

  1. Interact with students and members of the public on a daily basis, providing excellent customer service and communication skills.
  2. Collaborate with external service providers as required.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a Matric/Grade 12 qualification and relevant diploma in Administration/Public Management. A minimum of two years' work experience in a secretarial or administrative assistant post at a university or tertiary institution level is required.

The successful candidate will also have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work well in a multicultural and diverse environment, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, ITS, and iEnabler.
