Position Overview

The Process Engineer is responsible for providing daily technical support and implementing short-term enhancements within their designated area.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform assessments of plant health and discuss findings with the broader production team.
• Conduct regular production reconciliations and report on process performance metrics.
• Ensure that quality performance aligns with product and customer specifications.
• Review quality outcomes and communicate findings with production teams.
• Oversee the grade change process.
• Provide production support for the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process.
• Manage investigations following significant incidents and production deviations.
• Assist in Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) and Process Hazard Review (PHR) studies.
• Contribute to the preparation of statutory environmental reports.
• Offer Distributed Control System (DCS) process control support.
• Engage in short-term process optimization initiatives.
• Initiate and execute process and plant improvement projects.
• Champion the transfer of technology to the site.
• Support Operational Excellence (OE) and Center of Excellence (CoE) initiatives.
• Aid production and maintenance teams in troubleshooting efforts.
• Mentor DCS operators and operations trainers on efficient plant operations.
• Provide operational guidelines to enable Operations Trainers to develop and implement standard operating procedures.
• Ensure that technical documentation is accurate and current.
• Perform general administrative duties as required.

Process Efficiency - Execute work in alignment with established strategies, plans, and production objectives. Ensure optimal utilization of available resources, including personnel and equipment. Take responsibility for equipment selection, metallurgical process design, project life cycles, and related financial metrics within the functional area. Maintain, process, and update all maintenance records and associated documentation. Supervise the technical development and mentoring of Professionals-in-Training (PITs), Engineers, and Technicians-in-Training.

Success Metrics - Monitor availability (Plant, Mine, Resources, Equipment), track Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives, and assess project outcomes and cost-saving measures.

Safe and Healthy Work Environment - Ensure the maintenance of a healthy environment and safe operational practices. Adhere to SHEC and technical requirements in line with Plant/Mine availability targets. Identify and respond to defects or substandard equipment performance and other improvement opportunities.

Success Metrics - Compliance with statutory and legal requirements, achieving zero harm, and maintaining availability (Plant, Mine, Resources, Equipment).

Continuous Improvement - Initiate continuous improvement projects that lead to cost-saving opportunities while staying informed about advancements in the field. Conduct research to propose process changes and act as a Business Improvement process champion by collaborating with other development sections. Perform desktop and pre-feasibility studies to enhance process flow.

Success Metrics - Track projects and initiatives, cost-saving outcomes, and advancements in technology and research and development efforts.

Customer and Client Relationship Management - Engage with internal and external customers and relevant statutory bodies to ensure effective business relationship management that meets client needs. Uphold and promote Tronox's image at all times, providing professional advisory support regarding production and product quality across various organizational levels.

Success Metrics - Assess customer, client, and stakeholder satisfaction through indices, audit reports, and surveys, minimizing discrepancies and enhancing relationships.

Project Management - Evaluate and execute projects with minimal risk, adhering to specified timelines and budgetary constraints. Manage projects concerning processes, technology, and equipment.

Qualifications & Experience (Mandatory)

• BEng/MetEng, BTech in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering Discipline.
• A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a Metallurgical Plant or Heavy Industry operations.
• Proficient in MS Office and MS Projects.
• Valid Code B driver's license.
