Job Profile Summary

ERM is seeking a motivated Process Safety & Technical Risk Managing Consultant to join its Safety Service team in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support the successful delivery of ERM projects, focusing on technical risk and process safety management.
  • Develop and implement process safety management systems, including compliance program development and implementation.
  • Facilitate Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs) and risk assessments, including baseline risk assessments and risk control strategies.
  • Compile reports utilizing Bowtie XP or similar software.
  • Conduct risk assessments, including FMECA, Issue-based, SIL, FTA's, Haz-ids, LOPA's, and Fire Risk Reviews.
  • Develop and implement behavioral and human factors safety programs.
  • Stay up-to-date with South African and African H&S legal requirements.
  • Manage and analyze risk data.
  • Develop and implement resource efficiency and optimization strategies.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop and implement climate change services, including carbon footprinting and life cycle assessments.

As a Managing Technical Consultant within the team, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing or coordinating medium to large size projects or whole elements of larger multidisciplinary or global projects.
  • Delivering multiple project tasks or components of projects.
  • Supervising project teams and coaching and mentoring more junior staff.
  • Understanding the interrelationships between ERM services and policies and how these are applied within the clients' business model.
  • Establishing strong working relationships with clients through project delivery.
  • Developing and growing the Safety & Risk services in South Africa and Africa.
  • Client liaison, detailed proposal preparation and review, project execution and management.
  • Client training and technical assistance and adhering to ERM Southern Africa's and Global Risk's policies and procedures.

Job Requirements

  • Engineering degree, ideally in the field of Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience in all aspects of Process Safety, including QRA's, HAZOPs, Behavioral safety and Human Factors programs, risk management concepts including baseline risk assessments, risk control strategies task risk and continuous risk management.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in Process Safety/Technical Risk/Fire Risk fields after your academic qualification.
  • At least 4 years of this experience should be in a tech risk PSM related consulting environment with a proven track record.
  • Experience in aspects of resource efficiency and climate change.
  • Commercial acumen, business development and project management skills.
  • Excellent leadership and communication (both verbal and written) skills.
  • Experience with using data and technology to support clients with Safety solutions.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
