Job Title: Health and Safety Officer

We are seeking a skilled Health and Safety Officer to join our team at Wenz Recruitment. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure that all workers on the construction site are working in a safe environment and adhering to all relevant health and safety procedures.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist the appointed Health and Safety Consultant in preparing construction projects' health and safety files and plans.
  • Collaborate with the Risk Assessor and Fall Protection Planner to develop necessary documents.
  • Verify that all necessary documentation has been submitted to the relevant authorities.
  • Attend project planning meetings to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to identify hazards and risks relevant to the construction project.
  • Establish and maintain effective health and safety communication structures and systems.
  • Compile project-specific emergency response and preparedness plans.
  • Test the effectiveness of emergency response plans.
  • Conduct site Health and Safety inductions for all personnel.
  • Evaluate the levels of compliance of subcontractors to the project-specific health and safety file and client specifications.
  • Assist with the investigation of project-related incidents and accidents.
  • Develop method statements for site-specific activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of all health and safety activities.
  • Conduct regular toolbox meetings to promote safe practices.
  • Enforce health and safety guidelines and standards on site.

Key Skills and Requirements:

  • Computer literate with experience in health and safety software.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to motivate and lead a team.
  • Good knowledge of building methods and regulations, including CR 8 (5) (6).
  • At least 3 years of experience in construction work, including experience as a Health and Safety Officer.
  • Valid driver's license and mobile phone.
  • Introduction to SAMTRAC and registration with the SACPCMP.
  • Valid competency certificates for Scaffolding Inspector, Supervisor, and Scaffolding Erector, 1ST Aider, and Firefighting.
  • Medically fit.
