About the Role

As an Occupational Health and Safety Manager at The HR Company, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe working environment for all employees. Your primary goal will be to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations, such as OHSA & Regulations, NFPA 36, SANS 10400, and SANS 10139.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain Health and Safety Management Systems across all production sites
  • Facilitate and perform Health, Safety, and Environmental risk identification assessments, evaluation, and development of safe work procedures with department managers
  • Investigate and record accidents/incidents/near misses, ensuring accurate reporting and implementation of mitigating measures
  • Conduct regular Safety Committee Meetings as per OHSA requirements for all plants/sites
  • Oversee Health & Safety Representatives conducting monthly inspections and submitting reports for feedback to management
  • Audit Contractors according to audit schedules, with construction contractors audited every 30 days
  • Promote continuous Health & Safety training for all employees on safe work procedures and practices
  • Manage plant/site security and external security service providers to comply with security requirements and Food Safety standards
  • Operate and maintain the onsite medical clinic and facility, including equipment and medical consumable stock calibration
  • Ensure pre-employment, annual/periodical, and exit medicals are conducted in compliance with OHSA and food safety regulations
  • Securely store and manage staff medical records in the onsite clinic
  • Handle Department of Employment and Labour visits and reporting
  • Verify fire detection and suppression systems, including fire extinguishers, hose reels, and fire hydrants are functional and certified as per SANS requirements
  • Verify manufacturing plant/site equipment, such as steam generators, pressure vessels, forklifts, lifting gear, and mobile cranes, are compliant and certified as per respective requirements
Requirements:
  • SAMTRAC / NEBOSH certification or Degree/Diploma in OHS field
  • At least 5 years of experience in FMCG environment/factory setup
  • Registered SAIOSH and SACPCMP membership
  • Emergency medical experience registered with Health Professional Council of SA (advantageous)
  • Knowledge of OHS Oct and OHSA Regulations
Estimated Salary Range:

$80,000 - $120,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
