About the Job

This role is responsible for conducting risk assessments across commercial property portfolios. The successful candidate will provide risk surveying and risk improvement services to business partners, working independently most of the time. The provision of comprehensive risk insights will be primarily for commercial and retail market underwriters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out and complete risk assessments, providing survey reports within agreed time frames.
  • Provide risk improvement actions, assessing loss potentials in accordance with agreed definitions.
  • Recommend solutions for property risks and identify actual and potential hazards or loss exposures.
  • Conduct desktop reviews to support external and internal customers by identifying, assessing, and reducing the risks they face.
  • Participate in basic level training for customers and contribute to the Risk Engineering body of knowledge.
  • Lead risk assessment meetings and conduct negotiations with external vendors and clients in a constructive and collaborative manner.
Requirements
  • Relevant industry or insurance experience or certification in hazard identification and risk assessment.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Report writing skills are critical, and the ability to work in a team environment with minimum supervision is essential.
  • Very good computer skills and the ability to travel are required.
Competencies and Knowledge
  • Knowledge of techniques, roles, and responsibilities in providing technical guidance to clients, both internal and external.
  • Knowledge of successful negotiation concepts and techniques, including ability to establish rapport and build trust.
  • Ability to assess loss exposures, define construction types, and identify the need for automatic sprinkler systems.
  • Knowledge of the role of the risk surveyor in the underwriting process, including ability to prepare simple property diagrams.
