Job Description

The Recruitment Council is seeking a highly skilled Internal Audit Manager to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for managing the Internal Audit Function, providing independent and objective assurance and consulting services to our board, audit committee, and executive management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Internal Audit Team: Develop and execute a risk-based audit plan, ensuring that our organization's activities, systems, and processes are thoroughly evaluated and improved.
  • Conduct Audits and Reviews: Conduct thorough audits and reviews of our company's activities, systems, and processes, identifying areas for improvement and providing recommendations for enhancement.
  • Evaluate Risk Management: Evaluate the management of risks within our organization, ensuring that our risk management framework is effective and aligned with our business objectives.
  • Assess Internal Controls: Assess the effectiveness of our internal controls in mitigating identified risks, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Provide Consulting Services: Provide consulting services to our business units, enhancing their operations and improving their overall performance.
  • Communicate Audit Findings: Communicate audit findings to management promptly and professionally, ensuring that all issues are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Develop Action Plans: Develop and implement action plans to address audit issues, ensuring that all recommendations are implemented effectively.
  • Monitor Implementation: Monitor the implementation of action plans, ensuring that all issues are resolved and that our organization's activities, systems, and processes are improved.
  • Report Audit Activities: Report audit activities, findings, and recommendations to the audit committee, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and engaged.
  • Conduct Follow-up Reviews: Conduct follow-up reviews to ensure that all issues are resolved and that our organization's activities, systems, and processes are improved.
  • Coordinate with External Auditors: Coordinate and cooperate with external auditors, compliance functions, and other assurance providers, ensuring that our organization's activities, systems, and processes are thoroughly evaluated and improved.
  • Lead the Internal Audit Team: Manage and lead the internal audit team, ensuring that all team members are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
Qualifications:
  • Professional Qualifications: CA(SA) or Certified Internal Auditor (SA) (non-negotiable)
  • Desirable Qualifications: IT Risk and Audit Certification, Risk Management Certification, Risk Modelling
Experience:
  • Audit Experience: 3-5 years in audit, with a minimum of 3 years in internal audit
  • Leadership Experience: Experience leading/managing an internal audit team
  • Broad Range of Audit Experience: Broad range of audit experience, including operations and financial audits
  • Desirable Experience: IT audit experience, experience auditing insurance companies
Knowledge:
  • Advanced Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and the Code of Ethics of the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIA SA)
  • Knowledge of IFRS: Knowledge of IFRS
  • Desirable Knowledge: Understanding of the statutory environment of an insurance company, knowledge of King IV and other governance principles, understanding of Risk Management, understanding of IT risk, governance processes, and controls, knowledge of data management frameworks, ability to analyze big data

  • Hands-on Management: Hands-on management of a lean internal audit team (non-negotiable)
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Awareness of Internal Assurance Best Practices: Awareness of internal assurance best practices
  • Attention to Detail: High attention to detail
  • Professionalism and Interpersonal Skills: Professionalism, empathy, influencing, and interpersonal skills, with clear written and verbal communication
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in the MS Office Suite, especially advanced Excel skills
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Adaptability and flexibility to handle unfamiliar tasks and changing needs, priorities, direction, and timing
