About the Role:

At Southern Oil Ltd, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Analytical Scientist to join our team in Swellendam, Western Cape.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for verifying routine quality control performed before and after crushing and refining edible oils. This involves ensuring that details on load sheets are accurately transferred to accompanying documents, calculating quantities of antioxidants and anti-foam correctly, and preparing chemical solutions and standards.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Verify quality control results from laboratory equipment and ensure accurate record-keeping
  • Operate sensitive laboratory equipment and perform daily and weekly verification checks
  • Inspect goods received and raw materials to ensure quality and safety standards
  • Manage retainer and shelf life samples, prepare chemical solutions and standards, and perform sensory evaluations
  • Collaborate with the production team on laboratory projects and participate in safety forums and training sessions

Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need a National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or a related Science field, with a BSc Degree in Chemistry or Food Sciences being an advantage. Previous laboratory experience is also desirable.

Estimated Salary: R 250,000 - R 300,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
