Job Description

The Recruitment Council is seeking a highly skilled Internal Audit Manager to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for managing the Internal Audit Function, providing independent and objective assurance and consulting services to our board, audit committee, and executive management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Internal Audit Team: Develop and execute a risk-based audit plan, ensuring that our organization's activities, systems, and processes are thoroughly evaluated and improved.
  • Conduct Audits and Reviews: Conduct thorough audits and reviews of our company's activities, systems, and processes, identifying areas for improvement and providing recommendations for enhancement.
  • Evaluate Risk Management: Evaluate the management of risks within our organization, ensuring that our risk management framework is effective and aligned with our business objectives.
  • Assess Internal Controls: Assess the effectiveness of our internal controls in mitigating identified risks, providing recommendations for improvement.
  • Provide Consulting Services: Provide consulting services to our business units to enhance their operations, identifying areas for improvement and providing recommendations for enhancement.
  • Communicate Audit Findings: Communicate audit findings to management promptly and professionally, ensuring that all issues are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Develop and Implement Action Plans: Develop and implement action plans to address audit issues, ensuring that all recommendations are implemented and effective.
  • Monitor Implementation: Monitor the implementation of action plans, ensuring that all recommendations are implemented and effective.
  • Report Audit Activities: Report audit activities, findings, and recommendations to the audit committee, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and engaged.
  • Conduct Follow-up Reviews: Conduct follow-up reviews to ensure that all identified issues are resolved, and that our organization's risk management framework is effective.
  • Coordinate with External Auditors: Coordinate and cooperate with external auditors, compliance functions, and other assurance providers, ensuring that our organization's risk management framework is effective and aligned with industry best practices.
  • Manage and Lead the Internal Audit Team: Manage and lead the internal audit team, ensuring that all team members are skilled and equipped to perform their duties effectively.
Qualifications:
  • CA(SA) or Certified Internal Auditor (SA): A non-negotiable qualification for this role, demonstrating a high level of expertise in internal auditing.
  • IT Risk and Audit Certification: A desirable qualification, demonstrating a high level of expertise in IT risk and audit.
  • Risk Management Certification: A desirable qualification, demonstrating a high level of expertise in risk management.
  • Risk Modelling: A desirable skill, demonstrating a high level of expertise in risk modelling.
Experience:
  • 3-5 years in Audit: A minimum of 3 years of experience in audit, with a broad range of audit experience, including operations and financial audits.
  • Experience Leading/Managing an Internal Audit Team: A minimum of 3 years of experience leading/managing an internal audit team, demonstrating a high level of leadership and management skills.
  • Broad Range of Audit Experience: A broad range of audit experience, including operations and financial audits, demonstrating a high level of expertise in audit.
  • IT Audit Experience: Desirable experience in IT audit, demonstrating a high level of expertise in IT audit.
  • Experience Auditing Insurance Companies: Desirable experience auditing insurance companies, demonstrating a high level of expertise in insurance auditing.
Knowledge:
  • Advanced Knowledge of International Standards: Advanced knowledge of the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing and the Code of Ethics of the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa (IIA SA).
  • Knowledge of IFRS: Knowledge of IFRS, demonstrating a high level of expertise in financial reporting.
  • Understanding of Statutory Environment: Understanding of the statutory environment of an insurance company, demonstrating a high level of expertise in insurance regulation.
  • Knowledge of King IV and Governance Principles: Knowledge of King IV and other governance principles, demonstrating a high level of expertise in governance.
  • Understanding of Risk Management: Understanding of risk management, demonstrating a high level of expertise in risk management.
  • Understanding of IT Risk, Governance Processes, and Controls: Understanding of IT risk, governance processes, and controls, demonstrating a high level of expertise in IT risk management.
