About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team in South Africa. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of project civil works, including the Electrical Balance of Plant (eBoP) design and technical report review, supply and construction scope, providing oversight of the Electrical elements of the Civil Balance of Plant (cBoP), and overseeing the project quality installation witnessing, inspection, and factory and site test observations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the design team to deliver electrical engineering projects, ensuring that they are completed on time, to budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Managing the Electrical Balance of Plant (eBoP) design and technical report review, supply and construction scope, and overseeing the project quality installation witnessing, inspection, and factory and site test observations.
  • Coordinating with external Consultants on the scoping, progress, quality, and modifications of designs.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to reduce technical risk, improve reliability of assets, and enhance plant health assessments, trending of incidents, analysis of data, and ongoing monitoring.
  • SUPPORTING THE ENGINEERING MANAGER WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF INTERNAL GUIDELINES AND STANDARDS TO STANDARDIZE THE DEPARTMENTS ENGINEERING PRACTICE AND TO MAINTAIN ISO COMPLIANCE.
  • CONTRIBUTING TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF TECHNICAL, REFURBISHMENT, AND OBSOLESCENCE PLANS WHILE CONSIDERING THE IMPACT OF BOTH SUPPLY AND DEMAND SIDE ALTERNATIVES.
  • ENSURING THAT THE ELECTRICAL AND SCADA DESIGN IS PROGRESSED IN A TIMELY MANNER TO MEET INTERFACE REQUIREMENTS.
  • DEVELOPING DISCIPLINE-SPECIFIC PHILOSOPHIES, TECHNICAL GUIDELINES, AND STANDARDS, PROCEDURES, AND SPECIFICATIONS.
  • PROVIDING PROFESSIONAL TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP OVER ENGINEERS WITHIN THEIR OWN DISCIPLINE.
  • OVERSEEING AND LEADING INVESTIGATIONS INTO PLANT INCIDENTS AND RECOMMENDING INTERVENTIONS TO BRING PLANT BACK INTO SERVICE.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong background in electrical engineering, with at least 7 years of experience in a large-scale construction project environment. You will also need to have good knowledge of the South African Grid Code, including the Renewables Grid Code, and experience working for an EPC contractor or consultant in the renewable industry.

A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is required, and you will need to have demonstrated experience in the technical operations of renewable power generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure.

You will also need to have sound technical and commercial understanding of the Electrical and/or the Construction Industry, good understanding of the appropriate South African and International Standards and Regulations, and experience with wind farm project delivery.

In addition, you will need to have demonstrated high level of commercial acumen, with a proven ability to navigate complex deal structures, demonstrated capacity to work for a multitude of internal and external clients with conflicting interests and priorities, demonstrated capacity to influence outcomes, and demonstrated capacity to develop and manage relationships to ensure outcomes are achieved as harmoniously as possible.
