Job Summary

The Potchefstroom Academy is seeking a highly skilled Interior Design Lecturer to join our faculty. As an Interior Design Educator and Curriculum Developer, you will be responsible for teaching and learning support, planning and managing resources, competencies and behavioural attributes, expertise, liaison and networking, and initiative, problem-solving and decision-making.

Teaching and Learning Support

You will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering modules across levels, including new qualifications, while ensuring compliance with SAQA, CHE, and Academy standards. This includes creating and maintaining virtual learning environments, reviewing and updating course content, implementing innovative teaching methods and materials, teaching and assessing practical skills, software proficiency, and theoretical knowledge at the Diploma level, and contributing to departmental administration and public engagement.

Planning and Managing Resources

You will be responsible for designing and delivering module outcomes in compliance with regulations, supporting departmental management, including budget planning, business strategies, and team collaboration, participating in departmental and institutional strategic planning initiatives, planning and delivering research or consultancy modules effectively within available resources, and ensuring quality standards are met while balancing teaching, research, and administrative responsibilities.

Competencies and Behavioural Attributes

As an Interior Design Educator and Curriculum Developer, you will possess passion and industry expertise, energy, commitment, and a deep understanding of design and décor practices. You will also have communication skills, proficiency in written, verbal, and academic English and Afrikaans, ensuring effective interaction, teaching proficiency, capability to teach software, theory, and practical applications across diverse design concepts, student development, ability to monitor student performance, provide constructive feedback, and coach professionally, collaboration and planning, strong interpersonal skills for teamwork in multicultural settings, and meticulous planning/administrative abilities.

Expertise

You will be an externally recognised authority in the subject area, having an in-depth understanding of your specialisation to enable the development of new knowledge and understanding both within the field, or through application, with a particular emphasis on software, technical knowledge, and design. You will also have a record of companionship and cooperation between colleagues who share responsibility and teaching initiative at tertiary level.

Liaison and Networking

You will involve internal networks by chairing and participating in Academy subcommittees, develop links with external contacts such as other educational bodies, employers, and professional bodies to foster collaboration, ascertain external networks for example with external moderators, or suppliers and manufacturers for Design Talks.

Initiative, Problem-Solving and Decision-Making

You will resolve problems affecting the delivery of qualification within own educational programme and in accordance with regulations, make decisions regarding the operational aspects of own educational programme, support in decision making which have an impact on other related curricula, and strategically develop new courses or appropriate areas of activity and contributing to the development of such ideas.

Minimum Qualification Requirement

To be considered for this position, you must have a sound track record of Interior Design industry engagement, a National Diploma / Degree obtained from an accredited Educational Institute, comprehensive knowledge of AutoCAD / Revit, and proficiency in Adobe suites would be advantageous. Previous involvement with educational training / assessment could also be beneficial.

Salary

R450 000 per annum.
