About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Meat Buyer to join our team in Durban. The ideal candidate will have expertise in sourcing meat products for export, including pork, beef, chicken, lamb, and fish.
The successful applicant will oversee the procurement of all meat products, both locally and internationally, ensuring compliance with South African and international regulations.
- Develop purchasing strategies for fresh and frozen meat exports.
- Support the Senior Meat Buyer in achieving team objectives.
- Build strategic relationships with new and existing suppliers.
- Negotiate market support from suppliers.
- Manage costs throughout the value chain, from livestock to final product cuts.
- Monitor order execution with suppliers and Export Coordinators, ensuring protocol adherence.
- Physically inspect and load shipments as required.
- Liaise with suppliers, providing negotiation, market report feedback, and documentation support.
- Collaborate with PPECB inspectors and the veterinary department for correct documentation.
- Negotiate pricing and payment terms with suppliers.
- Source new suppliers when necessary and develop client relationships.
- Resolve problems and settle claims with suppliers.
- Track and place meat orders for export.
- Ensure adherence to correct processes at all times.
