Livestock Development Specialist

Job Overview:
The Western Cape Government seeks a highly skilled individual to fill the position of Senior Agricultural Advisor - Livestock in Beaufort West. As a key member of the department's team, you will be responsible for promoting sustainable development in the agricultural sector through the application of extension principles and methods.
Key Responsibilities:
- Compile project submissions and manage project implementation to ensure timely delivery of results.
- Conduct relevant development of farmers across all functions, including land reform and infrastructure development project evaluation.
- Deliver continuous support to farmers, focusing on production and economic principles.
- Assist with research and demonstration trials to enhance agricultural productivity.
- Provide market information to stakeholders and facilitate workshops and planning sessions to determine needs and progress.
- Write technical reports regarding project progress and promote sustainable production systems.
- Facilitate the development of organizational skills in the agricultural sector and provide training and support projects.
- Participate as a member of the project team by providing sound technical input for business plans.
- Perform general office administration tasks and ensure the implementation of the Agricultural Information Management System (AIMS).
- Engage with implementing agencies and Commodity Project Allocation Committees (CPAC's) to provide inputs and contribute to decision-making processes.
- Lead, guide, and provide support to lower-level extension and admin support staff.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Production of livestock and knowledge of animal husbandry practices.
- Project management skills, including experience with land reform programs and project implementation.
- Research skills, with the ability to conduct experiments and gather data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write clear and concise reports.
- Sound organizational and leadership abilities, with experience in managing teams and leading projects.
- Proven computer literacy in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
