Jack Friedman is an established Luxury Retail and Manufacturing Jeweller with 4 stores in South Africa and an On-line sales department.
Now we’ve got our eyes on new horizons and we’re looking for talented, fresh-thinking and dynamic people to come with us.

A Merchandise is in control of the sourcing, purchasing, planning, logistics and sell through of products within a retail environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create strategy and sourcing of product areas using lessons learnt to drive future opportunity
- Provide plans and forecasts for all categories and price points driven from sales history and brand strategy
- Closely monitor inventory flow
- Maintaining profit margins and stock turn
- Liaison with store managers to plan best-fit product mix for each store
- Work to ensure an effective time from order to market and product lead-time
- Ensure effective distribution of stock to store and product performance
- Buying and capturing of Stock
- Maintain a positive working relationship with all vendors, as well as negotiating product and shipping prices, as well as responsibility for evaluating new vendors
- Quality Control
- Working with Product Development Team in creating and testing new lines.
- Working with Store manager and visual Merchandiser to develop and implement the visual strategy for displaying products.
- Train Employees on Product Knowledge and the features and benefits of products
- Ensuring the right time and in the right quantities by accurately forecast trends, plan stock levels and monitor performance.
- Monitoring slow sellers and taking action
- Attend trade fairs, in SA and overseas, to select and assemble a new collection of products

SKILLS
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Understanding of Retail systems will be an advantage
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet deadlines
- Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
- Strong communication skills
- Demonstrate logical analysis and positive problem solving skills
- Possess an ability to understand financial measurements and how to impact them
- Trading and a Business Mentality
- Ability to work at pace, challenge results and information to identify needs, drive for results and track record of success.
- Profit Focused; skilled at finding opportunities to achieve profit in any situation,
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Knowledge of Jewellery and Gem Stones an advantage
- Having an interest in the products that the company retails will be an advantage.

QUALIFICATIONS
Although this profession is open to all graduates, or failing a tertiary education, 2 years minimum experience merchandising.

Although this area of work is open to all, a degree or diploma or previous experience in retail or business can equip you with a greater commercial awareness and therefore increase your chances of getting a job.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Previous retail work experience is important. This could be a part-time role as an assistant merchandiser, a role within the head office.
