About the position
Clariter is developing its global activities, and our growing team is looking for a hands-on Health and Safety Officer. As a valuable member of our team, you will support the work of the health and safety department, minimize safety incidents, prevent harm to property and personnel by ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, and advise on other workplace safety measures.

**Requirements**:

- Minimum high school certificate grade 12; BSc/BA in safety management, engineering, or other relevant field is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of proven experience as a health and safety officer, ideally in the petrochemical industry.
- In-depth knowledge of legislation (OSH Act) and good working practices.
- Registration with the professional body of Occupational Health and Safety in South Africa - an advantage.
- Experience as a trainer, moderator and/or assessor in health and safety - an advantage.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- An open-minded and positive character.
- Ability to work independently and in groups.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Motivated self-starter who can manage projects and make decisions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 15kg comfortably.

**Responsibilities**:

- Carry out tasks safely and in compliance with all applicable regulatory and company laws, policies and regulations, and foster a culture where health, safety, and the environment have the highest value.
- Strive to maintain a safe work environment for employees, contractors, and visitors, and promote a positive health and safety culture at Clariter.
- Maintain compliance with relevant safety regulations.
- Monitor work processes and procedures to identify unsafe practices or breaches of health or safety regulations.
- Perform HSE-related training and competence-verification of employees.
- Conduct regular facility inspections and audits to ensure a proper and safe work environment.
- Respond to emergencies, including system alarms and incidents.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring Clariter's HSE management system.
- Support compliance and correct implementation of all conditions and provisions stipulated in the Environmental Integrated Permit.
- Support compliance with Atmospheric Emission License conditions and requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify work areas with a high risk of operational hazard.
- Investigate incidents, complaints, and recurrent health cases. Identify and provide solutions to workplace situations.
- Assist in developing and implementing internal health and safety policies, procedures, and strategies necessary for optimized work processes and minimized risk of workplace accidents. Serve as the custodian of those policies, procedures, and strategies.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents and inspections for the preparation of reports.
- Prepare periodic safety reports and submit them to management for review.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) legislation and other regulations that can impact Clariter.
