- Responsible for implementation of EHS standards, procedures, and protocols, ensuring that the people and the site is legally compliant and satisfies the Compsny's Environmental, Health, Safety and Security procedures, standards, and processes. Responsible for establishing an on-going assessment of the implementation of the EHS Management System to comply within local legislation and the company's EHS requirements.- Core Activities:
- Actively drive the implementation and sustenance of the EHS Management System.- Quality Assurance: Developing, implementing, and maintaining quality management systems. This involves creating policies, procedures, and guidelines for quality control and assurance.- Ensure that standards and safety regulations are observed.- Address and discuss issues and proposed solutions with superiors.- Document quality assurance activities and create audit reports.- Make recommendations for improvement.- Create training materials and operating manuals.- Promote a safe working culture amongst personnel through EHS awareness promotion and training.- Compile and maintain the site EHS Training Matrix and collaborate with Human Resources to ensure that legal compliance training is conducted.- Perform EHS site inspections to ensure compliance with the safety processes and policies as guided by EHS plans.- Enforce compliance to Health, Safety & environment policies, procedures, rules, and regulations to all employees and concerned parties.- Participate in the development of health & safety guidelines, communications, safe systems of work and standard operating procedures.- Regularly review, update, and communicate Health, Safety & environment policies, procedures, rules, and regulations to all employees and concerned parties.- Ensure the Company complies with its statutory obligations in areas pertaining to environmental health, safety, statutory trainings, audits, wastes disposal, firefighting equipment inspections and reporting.- Ensure that all accidents/incidents are documented, investigated, and recommended corrective/preventive actions are implemented.- Assist with induction training as required.- Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, SOPs are managed, and employees are aware of their responsibilities, OHS ACT/COID/NEMA.- Facilitating EHS risk assessments e.g., fire prevention, manual handling and acts as a final authority where a EHS response is required in relation to the risk assessments performed by others on site.- Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant EHS legislation and communicate relevant changes to management.- Provide relevant information for monthly EHS reports.- Accountable for supervision, administration and record keeping on area specific EHS audits, inspections, reports, certifications, permits to works, etc.- Coordination of External safety related services Liaises with external suppliers on services needed.-
- Monitor the EHS improvement activities.- Providing assistance in retaining EHS Accreditations and working towards the attainment of new accreditations as required.- Contractor Management:
- Conduct audits on contractor safety files against EHS specifications to ensure contractor legal compliance. Review contractor safety files periodically and/or as and when required, for instance in the following circumstances: new jobs allocated, job scope changes, letter of good standing expiry, and competency/license expiry, expiry of medical fitness certificates, site induction.- EHS rep management:
- Notifies SHE reps for submission of SHE rep inspection reports, Assist and guide the Safety Representatives in carrying out their duties and issuing reports. Receives and consolidates identified issues for escalation to manager and submission to SHE committee. Ensures SHE reps are trained and appointed, Arranges, and chairs the monthly SHE committee meetings-
**Inherent Requirements**
- Matric qualification- Degree/Diploma in Safety Management- Certificate/Diploma/Degree in Occupational Health, Safety and Environment- HIRA- Competencies required:
- Strong computer skills advanced in Microsoft Office with advanced experience in Excel and data analysis tools.- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills is essential.- Strong understanding of data and the ability to drive processes.- Performance management and coaching experience is recommended.- People management.- Good conflict resolution skills are required.- Personal attributes:
