The Africa Region leverages its internal and global expertise to drive transformative and innovative practices that reflect the African context. By mobilizing our pre-existing talent within the region and working with our global teams, we take innovation to scale by working alongside our Ministries of Health to reduce health disparities. With potential for expansion, the division currently works across seven country offices and four project offices distributed among four Hubs - Southern, Western, Central and East Africa.
PATH’s Global South Partnership Team:
The new Global South Partnerships Team, situated within the Office of the President will work with regional liaisons to gather local market intelligence and set strategies for cultivating relationships with national governments in the global south, including in middle-income countries. This team will also forge relationships with the World Bank, regional development banks and development finance institutions.
**Responsibilities**:
Directly reporting to the Chief of the Africa Region, and with dotted line reporting to the and Hub Leader for the Southern Africa hub, the Partnerships Liaison for the Africa region will undertake the following responsibilities:
- Acquire information about the local markets and advise leadership on identifying, prioritizing, and qualifying a pipeline of new funding opportunities that are aligned to the program and business objectives.- Analyze donor trends, regulations, solicitations, and opportunities to identify risks to PATH, and advise executive and senior-level program staff on risk mitigation/avoidance approaches.- Conduct the sector review and gap analysis for potential engagement areas based on meetings and consultations with government, non-governmental, private, and civil society organization representatives as well as through the review and analysis of previous reports and publications.- Supports the business development activities, from strategic planning and positioning, proposal development, submission, negotiation, and transition to award through close collaboration with the hub and country leadership, PD and and BD teams as well as External Affairs (EXA).- Establishes and develops strong relationships with major corporate and institutional funders in the region.- Participate actively in all current and potential new partner and client interactions to follow-up on meetings, decisions, and commitments as well as to solicit feedback and assess client satisfaction.- With the External Affairs (EXA) team, support in promoting high visibility of PATH's activities in South Africa and the Africa region, including the creation and distribution of marketing, communication, and partner relationship management materials.- Support local, regional and PATH-wide capacity strengthening on business development.- Represent the new Global South Partnerships Team on strategic PATH initiatives with focus on the Africa Region.
Country Representation responsibilities to include:
Local stakeholder engagement- Maintain regular engagement (e.g. annually or more as needed) with key government representatives and policymakers, as well as leaders of key donors and partner organizations.- Mobilize the local team in the office to identify and pursue relationships with the government, donors, and partner organizations as needed in furtherance of the South Africa Project office program goals.- Represent the South Africa office, as applicable, with broader PATH Regional and Global teams.
Local South Africa (SA) Business Development efforts- Identify, assess, and prioritize new funding opportunities with the support of the local office business development committee and with the guidance of the regional leadership.- Oversee development and submission of a set number of funding proposals each year (determined in collaboration with regional leadership based on available resources)
Country office leadership responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the local and regional leadership to update and disseminate the South Africa Project Office Strategy as needed; ensure that overall office activities are proceeding in alignment with the Strategy.- Support the Project Office Administrator in contract negotiations with vendors/consultants, as well as developing needed and updated program policies and procedures.- Liaise with and provide regular updates to the Hub and Africa Region management team.- Meet regularly with the office technical leads to ensure up-to-date working knowledge of all ongoing projects within the country.
