The role of PSL demands both creative thinking, organisation and efficient administration. You will be pro-active in identifying issues on which the team and its clients need to be briefed, and able to pitch those briefings at the right level for the relevant audience. You will be responsible for maintaining and updating know-how and ensuring that it is suitable for the relevant department’s needs. The ability to start a project, project manage and see it through to completion, together with a commitment to meeting regular deadlines, are essential qualities to maintain the smooth running of our range of added value services. You will also have an important role in facilitating the day-to-day working of the Professional Support Lawyers and assist with training, technical support and research. You’ll need a keen awareness of the wider commercial and corporate landscape, combined with an eye for operational detail. You will also be required to build and maintain good relationships with internal stakeholders, and have a role in demonstrating Allen & Overy’s thought leadership to the market.

**Role and responsibilities**
- Develop and maintain high quality precedent documentation to provide partners and associates with cost effective and timely documents which help progress client business
- Prepare and maintain effective guidance material such as practice notes to enable colleagues to access material which is fully up to date with precedent and practice
- Prepare updates in line with legal developments to inform colleagues and the advice they give to clients
- Respond accurately, usefully and in a timely way to specific requests from partners and associates on complex legal matters within own area of expertise
- As requested, research legal or client/market related material to provide senior colleagues with clear and authoritative analyses
- Respond to requests for guidance from internal practice groups
- Gather, synthesise and produce good quality, up to date and readable client alerts and articles
- Participate in the design and delivery of training programmes to inform colleagues about current law and legal developments
- Maintain and develop own knowledge of law, practice areas, clients and current issues to grow expertise, reputation and usefulness to Allen & Overy
- Assist with Know How enquiries from PSLs and lawyers in other offices
- Assist with management of the library and available resources
- Take a leading role in the pro bono and community investment initiatives of the firm

**Key requirements**
- Qualified lawyer (at least 4-5 PQE) with recent experience in private practice
- Strong technical knowledge of area of expertise
- Previous fee earning experience
- Strong technical and drafting skills
- Fluent in English, spoken and written
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Energy and enthusiasm with a flexible and pro-active approach
- Will have worked successfully as a lawyer or PSL in a large law firm
- Excellent academic credentials
- Self-starter with the desire and ability to continuously acquire, build upon and share knowledge
- Willing to take ownership of role and drive projects forward pro-actively
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface at all levels and particularly to win the respect of the par
