JOB TITLE: Research Associate (South Africa)

SALARY: Market Related

LOCATION: Cape Town

JOB PURPOSE

My Client works in a collaborative manner with clients to provide customized, flexible, and multi-faceted biomarker solutions. They use innovative approaches, working hand-in-hand with our clients to provide custom solutions at each level of the biological continuum. Their scientific team are responsible for the development and validation of bioanalytical methods, designed to meet client-specific needs, while adhering to global regulatory guidelines.

The main purpose and objective of a Research Associate (RA) is to, under direct supervision, use fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of a particular platforms to perform routine clinical sample processing tasks. RAs are also responsible for generating revenue by conducting fee for-service analyses of biological samples (e.g. blood, saliva, stool, urine, bacteria, etc), using various platforms (e.g. flow cytometry, ECL, Absorbance, Luminescence, fluorescence etc.) and standard scientific laboratory equipment (e.g. centrifuges, incubators, vortexes, washers etc.).

DUTIES may include, but are not limited to:

- Perform good housekeeping (GHK) of the laboratory.
- Maintenance and proper use of instruments and laboratory space.
- Monitoring use and consumption of reagents, material and consumables through LIMS.
- Perform assays as per in-house SOPs and validated protocols with mínimal supervision involving various biological samples.
- Ensure clear audit trails by performing quality control of all information and data generated.
- Support senior scientists and scientists with the development of various methods.
- Assist with multiple projects in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
- Adhere to regulatory compliance and safety requirements, involving GCLPs, SOPs, H&S policies, and other related documents.
- Administrative duties including writing and maintaining study documentation.
- Assess systems being used and identify areas for improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential qualifications: Honours (BSC Hons or BTech) in Life/Biological Sciences (preferably immunology); or with 3 years of experience in the equivalent work or in a relevant technical role.

(ELISA specific requirements)
- Expertise in soluble biomarker/ immunoassay techniques and experience with cell culture techniques.

Position level will be determined based on skills, education/experience.
