BDO has a vacancy for a Regulatory Centre of Excellence (‘COE’) Associate Director / Director position in our Financial Services Division.

The primary goals of the Regulatory Centre of Excellence Associate Director / Director role are to take the overall lead for the banking regulatory pillar of the COE, entailing:

- Lead and manage the regulatory audits of banks and mutual banks
- Lead and deliver banking regulatory advisory projects
- Write and publish banking regulatory thought leadership applicable to the South African market
- Develop business development and thought leadership strategies for marketing and targeting the banking regulatory pillar of the COE - working with the overall Director leading the COE
- Provide support to the Financial Services practice by ensuring that all FS staff are trained and kept informed regarding legislation and regulation related to financial services, including latest developments in this field
- Provide support and advice to audit and advisory teams (internally)
- Develop material and present training to external clients
- Provide regulatory advice to external clients
- Liaise, communicate with and meet with senior executives at clients and regulators is an important requirement of the role
- Set and manage budgets for regulatory audits and advisory assignments to minimise overruns, negotiating maximum recoveries on assignments

Principle Outcomes:

- Leading and managing regulatory audits of banks in terms of the Banks Act and regulations, as well as the Mutual Banks Act and regulations
- Identifying and delivering on banking regulatory advisory opportunities, including the development of thought leadership material
- Providing on-going training relating to regulatory related matters to FS staff at all levels
- Providing regulatory advice internally and externally (to clients)
- Technical regulatory consultations with audit teams/clients
- Developing internal and external communications relating to current and impending regulatory developments
- Developing business development strategies for targeting banking regulatory services and clients in the South African market - working with the overall Director leading the COE
- Communicate with C-level executives of clients and executives at regulators
- Represent BDO on regulatory bodies
- Make decisions regarding acceptable regulatory treatment in straightforward and complex regulatory queries
- Take full ownership and accountability for the regulatory audits in terms of the Banks Act and Mutual Banks Act
- Lead and deliver banking regulatory advisory projects
- Write and publish banking regulatory thought leadership applicable to the South African market
- Develop business development and thought leadership strategies for marketing and targeting the banking regulatory pillar of the COE - working with the overall Director leading the COE
- Draft written regulatory advice / opinions in a clear, unambiguous manner
- Develop and compile regulatory training material for review
- Present training material both internally and externally
- Research regulatory related queries / topics / new developments and communicate, both orally and in writing, the results of the research in a clear, unambiguous manner
- Work in a team and collaborate with persons within and outside the team

**Requirements**:

- Deep knowledge of financial services legislation / regulation is essential
- At least 15 years’ experience in conducting regulatory audits in banks and mutual banks is essential
- B.Com Honours or
