**Laboratory Technician (FMCG Plant Experience) - Worcester, Western Cape - Job ID 3700**

We are looking for a Laboratory Technician with 2-3 years’ experience in an FMCG plant along with a Degree/Diploma in biology or chemistry. Experience required in operating electrical and nonelectrical laboratory equipment and potentially dangerous substances (flammable liquids, infectious bacteria, biohazards etc.)

Primary Purpose: Monitor the performance of the plant; do the required water analysis, compile and issue relevant reports; strive to minimise the consumption of chemicals and electricity; liaise with the Plant Supervisor to implement specific instructions.

Job description / core competencies:
Understanding and following the instructions and specifications of engineers, scientists, and managers.

Selecting and setting up the required lab equipment for tests, experiments, and analyses.

Conducting lab tests for qualitative and quantitative analyses of various substances and materials.

Design and execute laboratory testing according to standard procedures, make observations and interpret findings.

Assisting with the preparation of chemical solutions.

Keeping the laboratory neat and clean and sterilizing all work surfaces and equipment.

Regularly inspecting materials and equipment and ordering more as required.

Training and monitoring other workers involved in chemical processing.

Working alongside other engineers, chemists, and scientists to develop improved production/operations processes and methods.

Interpreting test results and compiling technical reports.

Keeping up to date with field advancements and sharing new knowledge with colleagues.

Receive, label, and analyse samples.

Conduct experiments under defined conditions to verify/reject various types of hypotheses using refined scientific methods as and when required.

Organize and store all chemicals substances, fluids, and compressed gases according to safety instructions.

Record all data and results in specified forms (paper and electronic) with accuracy and responsibility.

Maintain equipment and assist in ordering laboratory supplies.

Ensure that all safety guidelines are always followed strictly and maintain a clean and orderly environment.

**Job Qualifications, Skills & Experience**:
Previous experience in a similar environment at least 2-3 years, more will be an advantage.

Degree/diploma/national diploma in biology, chemistry, or relevant field.

Proven experience as Lab Technician or relevant position.

Experience in operating electrical and nonelectrical laboratory equipment and potentially dangerous substances (flammable liquids, infectious bacteria, biohazards etc.).

In depth knowledge of QHSE Systems, preventative measures, and laboratory best practices.

Strong analytical, observational, and time management skills.

The ability to follow instructions and focus for extended periods.

Excellent physical condition and endurance.

Working knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) and database systems.

Ability to work autonomously and under pressure.
