Purchasing and stores Manager - East Rand - Electrical manufacturing

**Main Purpose**
The main purpose of this position is to implement and oversee the controls relating to the purchasing, replenishment, holding and issuing of raw material, consumables and components for the manufacturing, repair and service of transformers, substations and switchgear in Wadeville and Heidelberg (Including Field Services).

**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Identify and develop suppliers where required. A key aspect of the role is maintaining the stock levels and stock turnover within the targets set out by management.
- Work closely with the WTD purchasing and material team ensuring alignment of strategies and strengths.
- Perform supplier audits, monitoring quality, capacity and BBBEE requirements.
- Ensure that the stock levels are replenished fast and efficiently so that we can serve our needs in time.
- Identify and address weakness in the stock control system to minimise/eliminate stock losses.
- Ensure all inventory and stock management systems are maintained accurately, within the agreed parameters timeously.
- Monitor inventory build up including Raw, Material, Goods in Transit and Finished goods to ensure no undue buildup of inventory.
- Engage with engineering, suppliers’ sales and other market players to keep inventory levels as low as possible.
- Review buying, inventory receiving, holding, transferring and issuing protocols.
- Suggest to Exco and implementation after authorization, controls in the purchasing and stock handling system.
- Be actively involved in supplier and sub-contractor identification, setting up of supplier agreements, assisting with supplier development, pricing negotiations and discount structures ensuring that we have the best suppliers on our database.
- Monitor supplier quality - As per our quality standards.
- Identify team 'shortcomings, provide training and development, promote their training when necessary, keep them informed about their performance and the impact of their activities on the company's results.
- Ensure that orders are placed and goods received within the required timeframes set by the company.
- Communicate and compare prices with overseas holding company.
- Oversee and assume responsibility for the MRP system, make sure that safety stock levels are maintained for fast moving items.
- Perform daily follow up on MRP - making sure that the requirements of MRP are addressed daily and that overdue items are ordered.
- Be proactive in the identification of delays and assist with the swift resolving thereof.
- Manage all necessary stocktaking.
- Review and assess any stock shrinkage.
- Review the outstanding PO schedule on a weekly basis and follow up with the buyers and suppliers.
- Staff management, oversee and manage the Buying and Stores departments.
- Have regular interaction with Engineering / Production / PCP regarding issues / Sales department regarding material allocations and delivery times.
- Negotiate with foreign and local suppliers on delivery and pricing of long lead items such as Core Steel, Radiators, Tap changers and Bushings.

**Qualifications and Experience**
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the transformer industry, supply chain in factories and good knowledge of a MRP system is required.
- Computer literacy: good knowledge of Microsoft Windows, PowerPoint and Excel Advanced.
- Knowledge of SYSPRO (Advantageous).
- Advance knowledge in Excel.
