Head of Programme and Partnership Development

Johannesburg, South Africa De Beers Group of Companies Full time

**Company Description
- Join us as a Head of Programme and Partnership Development - Southern Africa.**

The Anglo American Foundation (AAF) was established in 2018/19 by merging the activities of the Anglo American Chairman’s Fund (South Africa-based entity) and the Anglo American Group Foundation to form a single Foundation operating as a single entity with a common strategy and set of trustees.

In July 2021 Anglo American committed to endowing the Foundation with a $100 million donation, significantly boosting the Foundation’s ability to support progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This donation presented an opportunity to redefine the Foundation’s strategy, including its governance and operating model, to ensure it can deliver to an entirely new level.

Since receiving the donation, the Foundation has gone through a strategy review process to define its key strategic focus areas for the next seven to ten years. While AAF remains aligned with the Anglo American purpose (“reimagining mining to improve people’s lives”) and geographical footprint, it will be distinct and independent from the company. Additionally, AAF will move from being a passive grant-maker to an engaged, strategic grant-maker, focusing on long-term, system-level change, at a country/ regional level.

Anglo American Foundation’s future strategic focus will be on **empowering youth to create sustainable and inclusive communities, through catalysing green value chains and building resilience.**

**Job Description**:

- This role is an opportunity to shape the growth of a small, influential and agile organization. Leading the Foundation’s work in Southern Africa, with an initial focus on South Africa, but quickly expanding into neighbouring countries where we have a presence (Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana) this role is crucial to establishing the Foundation’s presence in the region, developing partnerships to co-create programmes and leveraging additional funding to achieve long term impact.

The focus of the Head of Programme and Partnership Development is to extend the reach and impact of AAF’s strategy, through building strategic relationships, initiating partnerships and co-creating catalytic programmes to deliver lasting impact and enhance the Foundation’s profile.

Key Responsibilities include:

- Work with Anglo American Foundation’s management team to develop the strategy, framework and roadmap for delivering and evolving a stream of sustainable partnerships
- Drive strong working relationships across the Foundation and, where relevant, Anglo American colleagues to support the implementation of the Foundation’s strategy, including communications and stakeholder management
- Build strong and productive relationships with the Foundation’s Board of Trustees
- Develop insights into how current and prospective partners can most effectively work with Anglo American Foundation to advance our shared strategic objectives
- Identify and conceptualize programmatic opportunities for the Foundation that can lead to systems change
- Identify priority potential partners to deepen our engagement across the philanthropy and wider development eco-system within the region and globally
- Develop partnerships which seek to maximise partner contributions towards our objectives and impact goals
- Work with partners to identify and implement programmatic interventions, mechanisms, and impact investments that will better enable the Foundation to achieve its ambitions
- Collaborate with the Head of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning to incorporate a robust monitoring, evaluation and learning agenda into all programmes and ensure impact
- Produce high quality business cases to secure approval for funding from the Foundation’s CEO and Board of Trustees
- Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in developing and forging partnerships and collaborative programmes
- Graduate (or equivalent experience) in relevant disciplines
- Understanding of and enthusiasm for Anglo American Foundation’s programme priorities
- The ability to think strategically and innovatively and translate this into practical engagement
- Strong leadership capability, effectively managing communication about our work with partners
- Experience in one or more of the Foundation’s strategic priority areas desired
- Experience of designing and leading project development workshops and developing business cases
- A demonstrable track record of securing co-funding, including through institutional and corporate donors; trusts and foundations; statutory funding; and development partners
