Regulatory Risk and Governance Manager

What will you do?
We have an exciting opportunity for a Regulatory Risk and Governance Manager based in Sandton, Johannesburg.
To oversee and manage and provide strategic direction to Specialist Solutions coordinators and administrators to ensure alignment to Group tight principles in managing legal, regulatory, operational, conduct of business, brand and reputational risk exposure. To upskill and train team on an ongoing basis (formalised and informally) through training, professional development, exposure and inclusion in key group projects and individualized and comprehensive business guidance and support. Oversight and management of and participation in Outsourcing Review Plan, assurance activities and projects. What will make you successful in this role?
To optimise and oversee regulatory operational compliance and compliance practices across the Niche businesses. Provide proactive regulatory and operational support for Santam Niche Business.
Drive the implementation of legal, regulatory, operational, conduct of business, brand and reputational risk controls within the 11 Specialist businesses to ensure adherence to legal, policy, procedure and regulatory requirements, as determined by the Group Compliance, Group ERM, Group BCM, Group Business Integrity, Group Legal and Group IT and/or as identified by the Niche Head, Niche Management or Specialist Executive, are addressed in order to mitigate the associated risks within acceptable tolerance levels. To coordinate operational activities in order to enhance and improve the overall risk environment and management of risks. Overall responsibility to provide oversight in respect of risk management, challenge business on risk rating and risk mitigation controls and provide direction on best practice and Group governance tight principles. Preparing and providing training (informal and CPD accredited) based in business needs. Ensuring key business processes are communicated, understood and adhered to (product governance; marketing and branding; group intelligence referrals; non-compliance reporting; data breach reporting etc.).
**Key responsibilities**:
Keep abreast of regulatory developments in the financial services industry
Establish and maintain good relations with business
To assist management in identifying effective and efficient control measures that will ensure adherence with regulatory requirements.
To drive the implementation of the controls within the business and provide ongoing support
Prepare reports for management and keep stakeholders informed of the level of adherence being achieved which may include Regulatory reports for the Niche Board: Niche Management Reports and Conduct of Business (CoB) reports
Assist with resolving of non-compliance issues, as identified by Santam Compliance Department or by Niche management, and ensuring the responsible Niche Business implements the appropriate controls, process or procedures
Preempting and preparing niche business for any regulatory changes and collaborating with the Santam Compliance Department
Managing the change process to ensure 11 businesses within Niche Business are able to evidence regulatory adherence through awareness training, project management and effective implementation strategies
Lead 11 businesses within Niche Business on a journey to improve the overall governance and regulatory environment.
To implement monitoring mechanisms, assurance activities and adequate controls to improve and mature the overall regulatory environment within Niche
To provide/assist with training of management and staff of Niche Business to enhance a compliance culture within the businesses and collaborating with the Santam’s Compliance Department
Draft and review disclosure notices from a legal and regulatory perspective.
Assist in structuring of business deals from a Legal and Compliance perspective when undertaking a due diligence for a binder broker or outsourced entity.
Vet and draft Agreements (including SLA’s/Outsource and Binder Agreements) and certain correspondence/press releases distributed by the Company; maintaining a register and safe custody of the original copies.
Provide training on legal and regulatory related matters and developments.
Producing detailed reports for the Niche Board on compliance related Management Information.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s or Legal Degree;
Honours Degree;
Master Degree an added advantage.
Compliance or Risk Management related qualification (Certificate in compliance management or Post Diploma in Compliance Management or Post Graduate Diploma in Risk Management);
Member of CISA.
Affiliate of CISA an added advantage.
Member of IRMSA an added advantage.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in insurance.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in outsourcing management.
Minimum of 5 years’ management experience.
Minimum of 3 years’ senior management experience
