**ROLE- ORCHARD ASSISTANT FARM MANAGER**

Mangeke Group Proprietary limited (**“Mangeke Group”**), a well-established and growing company in the agricultural sector is looking to appoint an Orchard Assistant Manager with strong technical skills, leadership skill and extensive experience in Avocado Orchard management. The Assistant Manager role is a leadership role, which requires sound technical ability to oversee the avocado orchards in a manner that achieves operational efficiency, taking accountability for the health of the orchard, monitoring compliance with operating standard as well as health and safety standards.

This is not an Employment Equity position.

**Key tasks and responsibilities**:

- Plan operational activities to be undertaken and ensure sufficient allocation of resources, people and equipment to maintain orchard health.
- Monitor and supervise work performance of teams and section supervisors.
- Serve as liaison between farm manager and operational team to ensure that operational objectives are met and that challenges are addressed efficiently and in a timely manner.
- Monitor the overall health of the Avocado Orchard and take proactive action to ensure the health of the trees and soils.
- Ensure that operational and production targets are met.
- Oversee and adequately plan for requisition of supplies, fertilizers, tools and equipment to manage the Orchard.
- Regularly inspect the orchard for signs of stress, pests or disease and report on condition of Orchard and make recommendations for corrective action, if required.
- Management, maintenance and monitoring of irrigation systems, related infrastructure and the irrigation program.
- Continually monitor work conducted and detect inefficient or unsafe work procedures or other areas of improvement and initiate corrective action as necessary.
- Oversee and actively manage periodic adhoc projects and functions as may be delegated by the business from time to time.
- Planning, management, and coordination of staff activity related to the farm tasks.
- Contribute towards the development of operational KPI’s and team KPI’s and be responsible for monitoring of those KPI’s.
- Ensure that all farm activity records are kept daily, that all KPIs are tracked, and that any discrepancies are reported and corrected as soon as possible.
- Manage teams and evaluate quantity and qualify of work.
- Maintain accurate records of operational activities to support agreed upon operating standards.
- Maintain payroll data to support accurate and timely recording of payroll, evaluation of staff, promotions or disciplinary hearings
- Monitor compliance to health and safety standards.
- Regularly inspect equipment and monitor use by staff to support preventative maintenance.

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
- Relevant agricultural Diploma/Degree advantageous
- Min of 6 years previous farming experience in a minimum supervisory role in orchard based farming (Avocado experience mandatory)
- Extensive experience with operating tractors, harvesters, sprayers tillage machinery and fertilizer handling equipment.
- Computer literate with excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong leadership skills and ability to work in a team and manage horizontally and vertically.
- A self-driven, results orientated person with great planning skills and a strong sense of accountability.
- Valid Driver’s license

**Salary**: R17,000.00 - R20,000.00 per month

Ability to commute/relocate:
