Legal Advisor

**Main purpose of the job**:
- Provides internal legal advisory services on legal matters across all levels of the business to ensure contractual procedure compliance
**Location**:
- **WHC, Parktown - Johannesburg**
**Key performance areas**:
- Leading complex, cross-functional business units with regard to contractual issues
- Developing relationships across all levels of the business to ensure contractual procedure compliance
- Ensure the contractual process is aligned with all business unit strategies
- Report monthly to senior management on the contractual process
- Ensure that the business activities are in line with applicable laws and donor requirements
- Maintains custody of legal documents whenever required
- Provides legal advice on risk and potential liability, in order to take necessary steps to control the company’s exposure
- Contribute to the establishment of legal guidelines for all commercial contracts that the company enters into to ensure its interests are safeguarded
- Ensure pro-active communication and building of sound relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders
- Establish credibility amongst stakeholders
- Assist Divisions with queries as and when required
- Assist with ad hoc reporting if and when required
**Required minimum education and training**:
- **LLB or BCom/BA Law Degree with an LLB**
**Required minimum work experience**:
- **A minimum of 5-10 years post-admission (Admitted Attorney or Advocate), experience in developing contracts in various industries**:
- **Experience working in a donor-funded organization will be advantageous**:
- **Must be familiar with local and international laws and regulations (esp. Company Laws)**
**Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities**:
- Excellent command of English
- Proven track record of drafting, reviewing, and editing agreements and contracts
- Experience working in a donor-funded organization or NGO will be an advantage
- Ability to work with staff at all levels
- Adaptable with the ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure
- A good understanding of tax laws and the ability to resolve integrated problems would be required
- Must be meticulous and have attention to detail
- Must have a high level of customer service orientation
