Our client a large law firm in Sandton Gauteng is currently on the lookout for a General Manager for their branch.

We need someone with numerical acumen and if they have any law experience that will be great. This is a very large role within the company, so we need a leader to take up the rains.

**Job explanation and description**:

- The **general manager's role** in a law firm is to oversee the overall operations of the law firm.
- This includes managing finances, human resources, and client relations.
- A general manager is responsible for setting and implementing long-term strategies for the law firm. The general manager must ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- They must also ensure that the law firm operates efficiently and effectively.
- They must have excellent communication skills to manage staff and clients.
- A general manager must be able to work under pressure and adapt to changing industry and economic environments.

**General Manager Role**:
**The general manager works closely with the office manager as they take care of the office environment and staff, the general manager will have to still oversee this department.**

**Financial**:

- Check logic and cost, and approve every supplier invoice or disbursement invoice, in line with cash flow, check requisitions and supporting documents align with policies, approve and once loaded release
- Cash flow projections
- Reminders for billing by each attorney, review billing and collections
- Write off approvals as and when received from attorneys
- Assistance with aging Debtors, allocating resources to assist in collections
- Oversee a team of 2 bookkeepers, 1 clerk, and 1 accountant
- Report on finances at the board level.
- Manage Audits and review AFS
- Tax planning
- Manage retirement annuity policy
- Payroll and ensuring salaries are in line with market-related salaries, bonus recommendations, and performance bonuses
- Collecting, interpreting, and reviewing financial information
- Predicting future financial trends
- Reporting to management and stakeholders, and providing advice on how the company and future business decisions might be impacted
- Producing financial reports related to budgets, account payables, account receivables, expenses, etc.
- Developing long-term business plans based on these reports
- Reviewing, monitoring, and managing budgets
- Developing strategies that work to minimise financial risk
- Analysing market trends and competitors

**Marketing**:

- Identify gaps in services and actively recruit to fill them
- Respond to any social media questions or contacts. Attend to cold call service requests and allocate fairly between internal and remote attorneys.
- Collect, proofread, and design graphics for Facebook and Linked Blog posts/content
- Website content development, updating, and maintenance. SEO campaign review and adjustments as and when required.
- Developing strategies and tactics to boost the company’s reputation and drive qualified traffic
- Approve boosted Social Media Posts, assign a budget, develop content, and set priorities.
- Branding and marketing collateral content development and oversight - ensuring alignment with the DWF branding guide.
- Tenders, proposals, and ad hoc collateral requests
- Deploying successful marketing campaigns from ideation to execution
- Experimenting with various organic and paid acquisition channels

**Governance and Policies**:

- Develop and implement governance policies and practices, procedure development, and implementation across all divisions of the business
- Monitor the compliance status of the firm to ensure that it is updated with prevailing regulatory risks, and anticipate international changes which may impact South Africa
- To identify and assess regulatory compliance risks, ensure monitoring through appropriate compliance systems and processes and further provide compliance advice
- Policy management and development, alignment with international and/or DWF standards.
- FICA officer, including audits, and updating of policy, sign off on high-risk clients, constant training

**Company Secretarial Division**:

- Client development and marketing
- New company registrations
- Annual returns
- Director and company updates
- Tax registrations, payroll, and AFS for various clients
- NPO registrations, department of social development registrations
- PBO registrations
- BEE advise and board structure advice
- Ensure that the Board is fully briefed on all governance matters.
- Provide advice and guidance to the Board on all matters of governance, statutory requirements, laws, regulations risk, compliance, duties, and responsibilities
- Removal of directors etc under duress
- Monitor changes in relevant legislation and advise the Board
- Policy and charter maintenance, compilation, and implementation.
- Convene meetings in compliance with regulatory requirements, including notice of meetings,
- agendas preparing meeting packs, dissemination of information,
